Computer building guide by Newegg and NCIX.

A quick mock build I made for someone just to give you a general idea of what you could get. http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=13296634
Of course, you could get a cheaper case, motherboard, or whatever. Even if you stick with that build, you could get a ~23" 1080p monitor within that $1200 budget.

When you say you want to be "gaming", you mean games like Bad Company 3, Crysis 2, and the likes right? Not just maplestory?

And as two other have said, this thread should be in the Non-MS Tech.
Build a Monitor. You can choose size, resolution, etc. It's usually cheaper as well.
As for a Desktop, i believe NCIX has an option to build your computer for $50 after you choose the parts, so that's an option, but you can always find someone to do it. If you want more help building a desktop for your needs, i recommend you visit the Tech section because the pc geekoids hang out there. (you know i love you guys)

Avoid retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, etc. like the plague because they have junk prices most of the time.
TigerDirect, NewEgg are great sites though.
Is it just me or NCIX= in Canada?

Anyway, thank you all for the suggestions, and it looks like I will have to build a computer/monitor D: .

Well I've found a link since again, I dont know how to build a computer,
http://www.kitchentablecomputers.com/index.php (someone please verify this is legit/ done correctly)

Also another thing, even if I build my own Tower, what about the Monitor? (I hope I'm not expected to build one of those also)
I've narrowed it down from a bit of searching, if I bought a computer.

Editted.

I've found a lot of Towers for around 400-600 that seem decent, For a Windows 7 Computer, whats the minimum I should be looking for if I want to run say firefox+ a game without any lag/computer issues?

For $400, you're looking for a computer that's good for gaming and includes a monitor?
Ahahahaha.

Only way you're going to come close is by building your own, but judging by your choice, you wouldn't be able to do so.
