I was 2 Years off. Do u still need Master Books to upgrade ur skill? Or is there any other method now?

You can buy books in any general store. ( I think)

Yes, you still need to upgrade your skills to be able to apply more points, but as above user said there are no more of the traditional mastery books. You go to a potshop and purchase lvl20/30 mastery books They work on any skill.
You can buy any 20/30 book for a few mill from an npc now in leafre. Including maple warrior.
