I get them more often than that with just a spider.
@Axnslicer: Because the demand for cubes is just too high. No matter how many cubes you get from drops, there's always the need for more. And lots of people would rather just buy the materials than farm for them bossing on other characters.
@fololo: All mobs in the game drop cubes (or at least ones in the Crusader Codex). The rates for bosses is a lot higher than normal mobs though (even with the increase, I've never seen a cube drop form a normal mob). If you haven't gotten one yet, I suppose you're just a little unlucky.

I kind of don't understand why the cube material market hasn't crashed yet, it's easier to get full cubes than the cubic blades used to make them.
The materials aren't too hard to get. It's a pain to maintain master/meister, but it's not too difficult. If you're not BUYING the materials, you could probably manage 2-3 per week collecting the items from bosses/elite monsters. Add to that that bosses drop cubes, too.

Mysterious ore veins give one every 3 veins or so, and czak gives me one every 2-3 runs
