Hack Protection Ideas

I have never personally been hacked before, but the idea that it could happen scares me pants-less. o.o

A few ideas about protecting players from hackers:

1.) Item locks available for purchase via mesos- why should someone have to spend NX cash to lock their equips and protect them from hackers?

2.) Character deletion protection- [edit]What about an option to select certain characters (ones that you have no intent on ever deleting) on the website, and setting up a deletion lock, that can only be unlocked through the ticket system?

3.) Inventory/Storage PIN- Enter a PIN to access storage/inventory once every login. Not upon login, but When you want to access it.
And make using a PIN optional, I suppose.

Any thoughts or ideas?

[Edit]
I think Nexon should make a page dedicated purely to security.
It would require something like 3 security questions, and maybe an email verification requirement to edit info.

On the page, you could:

-Add/remove allowed IP addresses for the account

-Select which characters you want 'deletion-locked'

-Reset or Turn on/off an inventory/storage PIN
---if the PIN is active, you have to know it to switch it off.
=LegendPlayer's idea, however, could use some tweaking. Some people have dynamic IPs, some people play on different computers in different locations. Perhaps have you log into your e-mail and click a verification link before you can log in from an unfamiliar IP address?
Eh, my comment didn't post, so I'll try again ( darn internal server errors)

my idea is call Account IP Lock
the idea is simple only that player ip can log into that acc

Your ideas are actually pretty good, some of the best I've seen on this site. I would definitely support all of them; I'd rather have account security with a little inconvenience (after all, getting hacked tends to be pretty damn inconvenient) than have an insecure account with complete ease of access, as my ridiculously long password and PIC would attest to.

LegendPlayer's idea, however, could use some tweaking. Some people have dynamic IPs, some people play on different computers in different locations. Perhaps have you log into your e-mail and click a verification link before you can log in from an unfamiliar IP address?

But in all seriousness, why is hacking such a big issue in Maple Story? Most online games only require a username and a password to log in, but Maple Story even has the added protection of a PIC. Every time I come on basilmarket, however, there are threads about being hacked.
This is what scares me D:
Nexon is making millions in profits, but it feels like their security isn't getting any better.
I would love for them to implement new security measures so I can have some peace of mind.
And honestly, what's the difference between pushing each button separately and typing it in?
Well, you're screwed if you have a keylogger and you type it in.

@ TS, i like all three suggestions. Wish nexon would implement them.
2. I've never been hacked, so I'm not sure if this is too much of an issue. Aren't hackers usually just after your mesos and items? There shouldn't really be any reason for them to delete your character. Besides, if a hacker can get into your account, he/she can probably change your password and PIN as well. What's the point of having your character not deleted if you can't get on the account anyways?

1) lf l find locked items, l delete the character
Some hackers are very spiteful, unfortunately

They should just let you add a list of IPs from which you can log in from. To add an IP, you would need to confirm via email.

I would be happy about those changes. But Nexon supplies these supports like item locks to get around the fact you still have to pay for them. So they can still say the protect you best they can, just don't mention it'll cost over 50k to follow through.
Great CS Item idea

Private Log In: Can only log in under 1 IP address(Can Turn on and off whenever) 15k nx Available for 90 days

EDIT: Sounds stupid to the max but u add your phone number and Nexon contacts you to confirm the deletion
EDIT2:You can only change phone number by contacting with current phone number
The only issue I have with that is it would cost NX cash. (And they would probably just make you use the ticketing system.)

They should have an ip tracker available on the website so that you can see all the ips that log onto your account like gmail does.

@above: I'm pretty sure PICs are a lot safer than just typing it in.

What about an option to select certain characters (ones that you have no intent on ever deleting) on the website,
and setting up a deletion lock, that can only be unlocked through the ticket system?

I agree with all you've posted. I rather spend 5min to get into my account to get actually hacked and lose everything I've worked on.

Either very cheap with mesos or free, I just don't wanna have to spend NX to protect my items. >.<

1) Sounds good.
2) Yeah, I agree. However, some people have problems with their account emails. (They have old accounts and they lost their emails).
3) It's a good idea in theory, but many people would use the same pin. Also, many people would complain about the 5 minutes it would take to go from logging in, to your inventory.
