Nexon games freezing computer Help Particularly Ca

Non-MS Tech Forum Talk about computer and tech topics

Maj0ra Level 200 Broa Dark Knight
I used to have an issue with all Nexon games (now only Combat Arms) where it could best be described as a "freeze". After a few games, my computer would freeze with the last audible sound buzzing in my ear forcing me to do a hard reset.

My computer can run games more demanding than Combat Arms and Maple. I'm a big fan of playing CA with my friends so I'd like to figure this issue out ASAP.
I used to get the exact same issue with MapleStory but for some reason it doesn't happen anymore. I tried running in all different compatibility modes, running as admin, running on a single core, etc. Please help!

Just a guess, but be sure your drivers are all up to date, especially the sound drivers.

Even if other games can run, old or corrupted drivers might make a game that only uses certain features cause symptoms like you described.
It shouldn't hurt to simply replace the video and sound drivers, just to see if that makes any difference.

I believe I updated my sound drivers but yeah no real difference. I upgraded my GFX drivers as well, no difference. Really sucks! Any more ideas?

It's odd that other games aren't affected.
I guess the obvious thing, if you haven't tried it already would be to re-install Combat Arms to see if it's something to do with the current installation.

I've reinstalled it twice already! My friend suggest a clan windows install but I feel that's a little too drastic for my taste. Anymore ideas? At this point I'm pretty much open to anything. xD

Probably the next thing to do would be just a general hard drive cleanup, plus a thorough virus/spyware scan, just to make sure nothing is affecting the game.

A full scan with your regular anti-virus, then a full scan with "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware" should clean out any evil things that might be lurking.

Then, in this order, use the built-in Windows tools for maintaining the hard drive:
1- Error Checking
2- Disk Cleanup
3- Defragment

You can use the built-in Windows Help to show how to run those tools if you haven't used them before.
It's also a good idea to go through the hard drive and delete anything you don't need or use before starting the process so that space can be recovered as well.

I agree- a clean Windows install would probably fix it right up, but that really -is- pretty drastic for just one game.

I already have Malwarebytes so I'm starting the check now while I go to work. I'll do Error Checking and the rest of the options when I get home! Even if it doesn't work, I thank you for your help! I'll post again tonight to tell you the status. xD

Yes! I got the exact same problem! It only happens on Combat Arms!
The computer just freezes up. I end up by restarting the pc manually by pressing the restart button.

I got all the drivers installed and everything is up to date =|
I got an AMD HD6970 2GB, AMD X6 1100t, 12GB ddr3 1333Mhz kingston memory, Asrock 890GX Extreme3 motherboard and 530W Be Quiet! PSU

I reinstalled windows like 4 times since the day I got that pc (which was around 1,5 year ago) My pc just randomly freezes up when playing Combat Arms. It hapens usually after a few games of Combat Arms.

Are your specifications similar to mine?

SINSER! I feel your pain Combat Arms brother! I have a 6990, i7 cpu 960, etc etc
I need to figure this issue out. Also btw Bob I did everything you listed and I tried to play and I actually froze faster than usual in the menu screen. Hmm.

Okay, so we have a similair GPU which might be problematic with Combat Arms?
As far as I know, combat arms does not support crossfire so it only uses 1 gpu of the 2 gpu's availible on your HD6990. So it uses the same GPU as my HD6970.

6990 doesn't use crossfire! Maybe it is some sort of incompatibility issue, though.
