@GeneralKrad: A scam is not limited to just that. You used the advantage of information to essentially rip him off. It's not like the price was ambiguous to you; there is a market price for LGR's that he did not know about and you just took advantage of the situation.
@luckysausage: Yeah...no. I have strange preferences. To be clear, I have no problems ripping people off for the things I want. I just happen to not care about LGR's or merching.
I wouldn't call it a scam though, maybe a rip off. He could have checked his prices. Or maybe he was trying to be friendly. And also it's not like the dude's hurt in real life, I hope. Like your preferences btw.
Hehe if you asked me no .. Why ? I can't afford 1 bil CherryTigers, I believe you are saying what i feel strongly, apart from that, this game is full of cliques, which i just hate, btw, nice videos.
ok if you had 1.5b I'm sure you would take it though. The other person was happy too, right?
Taking advantage of kids.. I bet you do that to friends also.. (if you have any outside maple) Word on the street LGR is going to be dropping from bosses.
Oh lord. Merching is hard if you have a conscience
This comment inspired a video out of me. These are the two misconceptions I will talk about in my video. Not sure when I'll make the video, but it'll be made. Have a read at my comment if you'd like. Enjoy.
Misconception number 1. Ask yourself this: If a granny store has 25 slots, how does a real merchant fill up that store? You're going to tell me they tricked 25 people or bought 25 mispriced items? Not very likely.
The game of merchanting is an art in my opinion because it takes the understanding of consumer demand into heart and also takes an understanding of prices that have been reinforced from time after time after watching that item's price fluctuate.
With those two things, you find an item that's priced low or averagely priced. I said priced, low, not priced incorrectly. There's a huge difference. And you buy that lowly priced item and re-price it for higher.
For almost all my merches, I buy items that are averagely priced and with my understanding of prices, I relaize that the item is demanded to the point where I can pull the price up.
Another big misconception: #2. Pricing items for higher does NOT entail overpricing items There is a golden ratio. That is between time and profit. How long do you want your item to sell? How much profit do you want to gain? Theoretically, us merchants are able to guess how long it'll take to sell an item by pricing it at a certain price. Prices always wiggle. There's no such thing as "THE price of the item." Price wiggle and always will wiggle.
Back to golden ratio: In fact, if you see merchants that just blatantly overprice their items, they have no clue what they're doing. They're wasting their time overpricing their items and screwing over the consumer too. Not only is it bad merchanting in wasting the merchant's time and money, but it's also selfish for the merchant to attempt to price the item at higher than it really is valued.
I hope you learned a thing or two about merchants today. If you want to ever get started, I think it's pretty fun. 99% of my merchanting consists of buying items out of stores and not talking to people and convincing them to go a certain price.
Merchanting is associated with a negative stigma but I always encourage the members of my alliance to be as honest as possible.
if someone sold you a lightning ring for 1.5 billion, would you take it?
Hehe if you asked me no .. Why ? I can't afford 1 bil CherryTigers, I believe you are saying what i feel strongly, apart from that, this game is full of cliques, which i just hate, btw, nice videos.
That's called a lie of omission. I can't believe there are people in this world who would just take advantage of others like that.
When people misprice items and ask me to return them, I return them. When people sell nx1:50, I explain to them why the ratio is higher. When people are misinformed about prices, I tell them the real price and explain to them how to learn prices.
This is just like stealing candy from a baby or tricking a little kid. I used to play Yugioh, and what I saw in that game was just as disgusting. Grown men would rip off little kids who had expensive hundred dollar cards simply because the kids did not know any better.
No wonder merchants have such a bad name. It's because of all the dishonesty that's associated with the name.
Edit: Reading more of the comment section made me even more sick to the stomach. Someone really just said "if you had the opportunity, would you do it?" Wow... Um.. no? That question does not justify the actions. "It benefits me so it's okay."
Honestly, I wish I didn't click on this thread. We're all different people. If you like the LGR, keep it. If you feel bad, return it. I don't know anymore. I think I had too much Basilmarket in one day.
That's uh....that's kinda what a scam is. The most innocent form would be for you to tell him what the price usually is and with full knowledge, he gives you an enormous discount due to your kindness or something. If you didn't tell him the price, that's relatively close to ripping him off.
A scam is not holding up your end of the bargain, it was a fair trade. I gave him the amount he wanted, and he gave me the item i wanted.
Lol it wasnt a scamm though, the guy just didn't know his prices.
