3ds Charging Issues

Hello everyone, I recently bought a used (refurbished) Nintendo 3DS from GameStop the other day. I didn't use it at all until today, and I noticed something odd. I've never had a 3DS before so it's new to me, but I found out when I try to charge it, it only charges when the system is either turned off, in sleep mode, or if no applications/software is running. When I am playing a game and I try to charge the 3DS the orange link indicating it's charging flashes on an off (mainly stays off though) and the screen dims and brightens. I don't know if this is how the system is supposed to be, but I doubt it wouldn't allow you to charge and play at the same time (like older DS systems). I don't know if it's a problem with the actual 3DS or the charger. Anyone have any idea how to fix this? Thanks!

Or you know, those people who just simply have less money to spend on a function they never use.

OT: Doesn't sound like it's working like it should be. How much did you pay for it if I may ask? If it's far below 100 dollars it's probably logical that it's not working as expected. If it's above, I would suggest sending it back if you still can and getting a different one. Doesn't have to be new, but definitely a different one.

The 2ds is not garbage. Its a device that happily allows you to play 3ds games without 3d.

Because contrary to popular belief, not everyone wants 3d and is willing to pay extra for a feature they are never going to use. If this is not you then congratulations, you arent the target demographic!

It does sound like its an issue with the 3ds itself, if it was a charger issue it probably wouldnt charge in sleep mode or at all.

I'm probably just going to do this and trade it in for another used 3DS. If I have similar problems I'll just get a new one. The way I saw it I've bought used systems before from GameStop with no problems. It's exactly the same and it saves me $40 so why not.

@QuackOutLoud: The comment right before mine said get a 2ds if his budget is low. So my comment does have to do with something. I am letting the ts know they are garbage.

Probably the 3DS itself. Considering its used and refurbished, I'm not too surprised to see it isn't working properly. Charging shouldn't affect screen brightness, and the system is supposed to charge at the same time while you're playing. If I were you, I'd bring the 3DS back to gamestop and either get a non-refurbished and working 3DS, or a brand new 3DS instead. Make it a 2DS if your budget is short.
