Biologic help please

i cant find the answer to this question:
what is the reason that old forests no longer have a net uptake of carbon dioxide?

I think all of you forget to mention that trees use up the most amount of CO2 when they're [b]growing[/b].
Old forest doesn't just mean "dying trees". Some trees can last for thousands of years.
