Metal Musicians Unite

I use to play a lot of guitar but then I moved to vocals and just sort of worked with that. I recently started writing again but my vocal style no longer reflects my guitar playing style
I jam with a band but I'm not in one. (I like writing by myself.) My vocal and drumming style are influenced by metal.

The last time I wrote anything on guitar was punk rock/heavy metal. Now I'm in to death metal/metalcore ambient and djent tones now. I would like to play some sort of happy medium. I only have my old 6 string with out any pedals. Is there a huge learning curve for these genres or are my roots pretty solid?

My pick ups can play drop c pretty well and even drop b when I have the right strings. My Current strings are earnie ball slinky .54s I was thinking about replacing them with some cobalts but I'm not sure what gauge I should pick...

I've never played the djent style with a guitar rigged specifically for it. Would it be worth it to change my guitar and should I get new pick ups?
I don't think I'd need new pick ups since I just need something with lose tension and a low tone but I feel like I should ask so I can be 100% sure.

My next question is where should I go to find some good tabs? And if anyone has any good metal songs to cover for novice players could you leave them in the comments? I'm more interested in rhythm than lead.

My last question. I'd like to play in drop b and I want to know if I should invest in a pedal or new pick ups?

Thank you so much guys!~
