Glasses during Sports

Hey guys, so I play basketball and plan to join the school team this year.
I heard that the coach doesn't allow any type of accessory to be worn. (Glasses, contacts, jewellery, etc.)
The problem is, my eyes are really really bad. They're -5.75 and -6.5 distance.
If I take off my glasses while playing, I have a really hard time even seeing the ball...
My friend mentioned something about special goggles and safety glasses for sports?
Does anyone have any information on any of this?

My coach says just in case. So can we please just stop posting about getting contacts? I've already said it isn't an option.
As for the night lenses, my optometrist does not recommend them to me because of my astigmatism and presription.
So now I'd really like to get posts about Safety Glasses/Goggles, please and thank you.
I found safety glasses at a store I regularly go to for my lenses and the price for the frame itself was $145, and the estimate for lenses was $100
Before from the same store I've gotten frames for almost 40% cheaper and lenses that were supposed to be $80 for $50.
I would assume I can get both for less than $180, but craaaaap that's so expensive..

Wait, so your coach cares about your safety, but wants you to crash into things and let the ball smack you in the face?

How will your coach know you have contacts? Unless your contacts are humongous like mine, he shouldn't notice.

He doesn't allow anyone to wear contacts because when you get pushed contacts can slip to the side of your eye.
My coach cares about our safety so....

A problem with the goggles are, are they prescription? My eyes are pretty bad. Also where would I get them?[/quote]

Why won't the coach allow you to play with contacts? Hell, how would he even know you're wearing contacts?

Well that's just messed up...
How will he even know you're wearing contacts? I've never had them (glasses ftw), but I'm pretty sure they're nearly invisible.

What the hell? Why won't he let you wear contacts?

I have friends who wear contacts and they play football and/or basketball and they have no problem what-so-ever.

I think contacts are a good solution. I play sports too and my vision is bad also. -5.25 and -5.75.
Contacts solved all of my problems.

I think contacts are good for playing sports. But I mean, cmon, you don't need it THAT much for basketball. Except maybe for depth perception. I'm not really sure because I'm not all that great at basketball.
