Long distance is hard, but if you can work it out, it's well worth the effort. I was lucky enough to road trip across Canada (from Saskatchewan to Vancouver Island) with Stephen this past summer, and it was just awesome-I wouldn't change it for anything in the world.
It definitely takes a lot of time, trust, and effort. A tip I have would be to write each other letters- it's a nice break from talking on electronic devices, and having something physical to look at and such is lovely (sending birthday/Christmas/etc packages are always a nice surprise as well!).
