Why is tennis so hard?
I just tried to play with friends today and I flat out sucked, I was ashamed to be on the court. I would try to not hit the ball so hard but it would go flying out of the court and I missed the ball a couple times......On top of that, I'm a lefty and everyone else is a righty so they cant even teach me like that....Will I simply get better from playing more or can you guys give me tips?

Uhh well just keep trying I would say. I am an indian and in my area all the indians play tennis and eat watermelons... except me. One day they invited me to their courts to hang out. It was awful in the beginning but after a little concentration it worked out and I managed to beat my varsity friend.
1. don't try to hit hard try to connect
2. to connect always watch the ball. If you can play softball you can play tennis

welcome to anime
Just play badminton.
So, I have to keep at it? My friends play with an aggressive style and I want to play like them but when I manage to hit the ball, it goes flying over the fence(one actually went through the fence) and into the street.....I guess I will have to wait
@Satoshi1234 Yeah, my friends told me to keep a horizontal arm
Don't play aggressively if you just started. You'll end up smacking the ball everywhere. Work on your form before you start hitting hard.
i sucked at tennis too. then i rented prince of tennis (the anime.) and now i am godo at tnnis. you should try this too

1. Don't hit hard.
... That's about it. I was like that too on my first try, but after holding back the power, I got a lot better at it. Beat nearly everyone in my class, actually, except for the jocks. XD
Also, don't use your wrist. The accuracy should come from a controlled, relatively slow movement from the entire arm. Don't treat it like badminton; using your wrist will just throw off your aim.
And for now, think of it more as "bumping" the ball rather than "hitting" the ball. "Hitting" implies a hard strike, whereas you shouldn't be using any power whatsoever until you learn to control the ball well-- which starts with lightly bumping it.
Make sure not to just whack the ball, but to brush the ball and finish. The more you practice, the better you'll get.
Bleh I don't like tennis.
After playing Mario Tennis I thought it was easy... nope. lol
As for advice, I can't think of anything other than the line, "Practice makes perfect."
