Why can't I get my emotions in check?

Ok, here's the deal.....I really liked this girl and she really liked me back.....A few days ago, I found out she had a bf(she told me he wasnt treating her right and she hated him) and I called her on it and we decided to end it there.....The problem though is that I'm really sad about it still....I don't know why though since I initiated it....I thought I would be able to push it aside and leave it alone like I do with other things that make me sad....Is there a way I can do it alone or should I suck it up and talk to someone about it even though I'm scared?
