How much would it cost

To fund a buccaneer up to the ability to solo hell gollux?
Does sound more difficult than i'd expected. Can't imagine it's something that'd take too much time to figure out with a decent sense of rhythm and some attentiveness towards detail.

Is their DPS sub-par aswell, then? Or are they just more difficult than the more common classes?
I've done hundreds of Hellux runs with characters much easier to handle than Buccs, and I still die all the time. Hellux does not follow a simple rhythm. A rhythm certainly exists, but you won't be finding it for at least a few weeks worth of runs. I don't recommend trying to solo Hellux while learning how to time his attacks unless you're a class like Lumi, NL, or NW. Just find someone to duo with while you figure it out.
The main issue isn't with Buccaneer, but it's with working around the poor aspect of Buccaneers in comparison to end-game bossing needs. For example, standing too close to Gollux's eyes during the second phase after his jaw can lead to an attack which nearly one shots you; Octopunch is very close to enemies, and falls within this range. Buccaneer Blast is unsafe due to the hands that may impact on the platforms, and instantly kill the player.

Said Buccaneer does a small description of his mechanical knowledge in the video's description, and the eyes nearly instant killing attack has a cool-down. As a result, he punches them in the face after the cool-down of said skill(Which he'd have to manually time and look for) while he hops from one platform to another in order to mess with the aggro of the eyes, and cause them to attack less, and he also needs to keep track of the bottom platform and its minions(Five get to the center and you're dead) while he avoids the lower floor one-shot ability that triggers before its animation finishes. He also uses a trick with Rusellon's Potion, from Magatia, that poisons the player in small increments that can trigger Pirate's Rage(Which would be suicide to use in any other way at Gollux). Compare this to a Night Walker(One of the easiest Gollux classes), who just end up clearing the bottom platform of spawns while 1v1'ing the eyes at a safe range, and you can see why a Buccaneer needs greater mechanical knowledge overall to perform well.

New Buccaneer mechanics in a casual setting is not the issue, the issue is using the few tools we have compared to other classes in end-game bossing, which makes us less effective and makes out survival much more difficult.

Well, i'd imagine it wouldn't be too hard to pick up new Bucc mechanics. Back in the days of CSB/Dragon strike/Barrage/Double upper I had pretty decent control. Can't imagine the learning curver has spiked much.

Although someone dropped a $700 figure which is more than I expected honestly. Was hoping i'd be able to make a nice char to mess around with for $200-300.

From what I saw, no. However I may be remembering incorrectly, so it's worth checking out; it also helps out with learning the control required for Hell Gollux(Since Buccaneers have a close range 1v1 and require excellent Gollux mechanical knowledge to fight him). I am not a funded Buccaneer by any means, nor do I check prices in my server as I am not a merchant, so I cannot offer Windian prices, unfortunately.

Does he show equips in the video?

And if you've got time an example of ballpark price ranges from your server would be super helpful, since i'm not really set in any one server. I haven't played in ages, but I do miss the game to an extent.

I'd still be playing to this day if they hadn't removed LHC, that was kind of the nail in the coffin for me personally.

Dragon Strike is still a skill(Granted, it's mostly useless). People don't main Buccaneers for the most part due to their severe limitations both inside and outside of end-game bossing, poor damage potential and shifting play-style(Specifically loss of Iframes and Transformations that turned a fair bit of people off of the class).

There's a video of a Buccaneer soloing Hellux; his damage would be what you need to aim for, but the issues there would be server-specific costs, how much you'd need to invest, cubing, etc... it's too large and varied to put a good estimate on, but expect a lot more than what other classes need.
