How to deal with family member going to jail
A family member went to jail. Sure they had it coming and probably deserve it, but I feel like I should help in some way only because they are a family member. Should I help? This is a very complicated situation because we haven't been close (physically or otherwise) for years as well. But now that the news is here that they went to jail, I feel like I have some kind of obligation to help at least a little bit. Should I help, and if I can, how? What would you do in my situation?
edit: I should add that they weren't a good family member either and never really gave a crap about the family; if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the help everyone. I probably shouldn't have made a thread about this on basil .
you ppl don't know what its like in prison. sayin everything your sayin. theres this thing called buck 50, when you slash someones face with a razor. theres this other thing called TOH wear they shove a broom up your ass and break it off.
In any case, if your family isn't a crazy abomination that you can never understand, you should stand on their side. If you're not even close to them to start with, don't bother, unless if they personally asked for your help.
why help someone who had it coming. Family member or not, everyone is responsible for their own behaviour. It's not on you to support that person when it's simply the consequence of THEIR choices in life.
Don't worry about it.
by not giving a damn, if he never gave a damn, you certainly don't have to care now
nope let the evil rot in jail.
Let whoever cares about him/her deal with it.
depends why he went to jail for
