Help made a really dumb mistake in job application

My college has this database where they place internship vacancy. Between the small and unknown companies I found a big fish: an internship at a big and well known bank. The profile and activity also suited my experience perfectly. I was hyped, wrote a good motivation letter and sent it 2 hours ago. Now I got a mail back from the recruiter. She thanked me but wondered how things will work out with the travel distance. As a student I can go anywhere with the bus and train for free. But when I looked up in Google maps for the distance between the company and my house I was freaking shocked: a 3 hours ride! Sure, I don't mind doing it once a week but for 6 months 5 days a week? I would be brain dead and say goodbye to my social life! My mind was so into that fantastic internship that I completely forgot the big distance between my house and the company. Seriously, the company is almost next to the border to an another country. I could hop to Belgium if I were there (I live in Holland).

For some reason her message sounded a bit sarcastic and mocking my stupidity. She also thanked me beforehand for my reaction, which suspects thats shes waiting for my stupid response. I'm 85% sure that I will resign for the application. Now I'm just stressing if I should mail back and look stupid for not realizing the distance before applying. Or should I just leave it and forget it? My motivation letter seemed really pro and formal, so it would look really stupid and awkward if I would apologize for my stupidity with the travel distance.

I did too I think. I didn't turn in my radio station application because I thought this after school tutoring program would pay me AND count as tutoring credit for my education class, but it doesn't count. So I'd have to do that AND tutoring. But now I dunno what I'll do for work study/money for sure, cause that's what the radio station was gonna be.

I like what effin said but if you cant move or whatever, just apologize. Tone can't be properly translated through text and you could have imagen it because now you feel embarrassed about yourself. But yeah, i think the lady will understand your excitement about the internship. Any kid, fresh from school, would get excited to get a job.

I'd just get back saying that you didn't realize it was so far away and that it's not convenient with your schedule. People understand

Just move if its a good opportunity. Tell her you planned on moving closer if so. You can always spend a year or two there to gain experience and move back home. I came out 2 hours from home for a job recently out of college and its not too bad. I go home on weekends about 2 times a month to hang out with friends and family.

Thanks ilikeanime. You can ask her if she knows about cheap housing near the area.
