What college do you wanna go to/ do go to?

Which college would you like to attend, do you plan on attending, or do you attend?

I just enrolled at Cornell School of Engineering, sent in my deposit like 3 days ago. Class of 2016.
Sigh, Columbia was my dream school. =/

Basilers? Anyone here a Cornellian?

I know Albany is a crazy party school, but UB is pretty much considered a party school too . I've been to several insane parties here, but I'm sure they're probably more intense there

Definitely true, but most MBA students lack soft skills, which I believe I possess. I am very confident in succeeding in the business world, but it could just be me being arrogant. Who knows?

I'm looking to be a premed Engineering student, hopefully Electrical Engineering. But I'm also looking into Wall Street. My heart's always been set on Med, so I have a feeling that's where I'll end up in the end, and even if I don't, whatever happens is for the better. I plan on doing what I like, so I'll figure it out.

Dartmouth, Brown, and Cornell are meh Ivies in my opinion. =/ The people at Cornell carry themselves in a really annoying way. I found Columbia to be much better, but sadly I was rejected. I heard about the issue with out of state fin. aid with the UCs, but they're great school nonetheless. I think in your situation, I would've been NYU v CMU (and they both are pretty harsh on fin. aid, both infamous for it), and ended up going CMU in the end, because I still like the idea of Engineering School better than CAS.

And I'm not sure what to do long distance wise. There's a girl that likes me, and I do like her too, we're best friends but it's really easy to see we can be more than that. The only thing is, I asked out her best friend this past Christmas, and got friendzoned (most probably because the best friend knew that this girl liked her =/). I don't wanna second option her, cuz she feels like she lives in the shadow of the girl I asked out. She needs to break that. And other than that, I somehow have feelings for both. Sigh. And it would be long distance. =/

Edit: @CrayonScribble, generally yes. The exceptions would be Northwestern (my friend got a B+ for Orgo and he had a 47 in the class...), Harvard, Yale, UPenn (other than Wharton). They just weigh your averages so heavily. I have a feeling Columbia falls on that list too...
Other than that, Cornell, MIT, CalTech, UChi, Stanford, Princeton are all known to be quite difficult.

Edit: @TonyWashere, should've done Albany man! Crazy parties! Or New Paltz... =P

I really want to go to John Hopkins... I can probably get in but good god the price may be a little too much for my family.
Since Georgia supplies a scholarship for staying in state... I'll probably end up at UGA.

I'm a previous student of cornell, but I recently transferred. If you have any questions just ask me since I was also in the school of engineering. The thing about cornell is that it's just a massive ass pain to switch from ChemE (college of engineering) to Chemistry (college of arts and science) and that's what I wanted to do since I now want to become a pharmacist. Plus it wasn't very cost effective for my family... but that's another subject. Cornell engineering classes have a B- average, and there will always be someone that will get a 100% or very very close to that on an exam even if the average is around a 60% (for the math classes for example). You'll study your ass off and you can still get screwed in the end. Other than that though, Ithaca is very beautiful. My favorite study area was the stacks in Uris library. Oh, did I also mention the food is quite delicious? Take the time to go to west campus using your free bus pass (if this still applies to freshmen) and eat the food there. Also, take matlab -> transition to java. The java professor is just terrible. Just go out of your way to make friends and get their phone numbers the first month, that will help you get connections to a ton of things since people at cornell aren't very keen at meeting new people once they have their "group."

@beerbeer: LOLOLOLOL WOW. Coors Light? You mean Colorado Piss LMFAO. Honestly, I give you huge props for saying all of this, because people usually never talk badly of their school. They always carry it around like they go to the most high and mighty school of all.
Yeah, Carnegie does have a top notch education though, I will 100% give you that. Even more respect for you, since you go there and seem to want a social life.
Oh and lastly, I think it's amazing that you have a long distance relationship going. I wish I could do that, but I don't think long distance would really work for me. =/

Edit: @Daysiie, I know. Sad thing, really. =[ Such a good location aesthetics wise, but it lacks things to do. The people doesn't seem so warm either, but maybe that will change with time, and I'll get used to the people.
IMHO the people > the surroundings, and that's why NU was > Cornell in my books. Sadly, like I said, parents.
Yeah.. it's not a blast here at all LOL. Pittsburgh is dismal to say the least. The only thing that really keeps me going is knowing that my education is top-notch. The social life mainly revolves around Greek life and everyone is really clique-y and immature. People are very high-school-y. There's lots of drama within fraternities and athletic teams and whenever I ask my friend on the swim team where she's going she says "swim house" and thinks she has a social life because she hangs around the same people all the time, even though she always talks crap about them behind their backs, and goes to whack ass frat parties that only serve Coors Light (probably the worst beer). I'm more of a laid-back person, and having a girlfriend back home definitely reminds me most of the time that my goal is to get my masters in 5 years and get the hell out of here. In a sense it is what you make of it, of course, but what you CAN make of it is significantly less appealing than what you could make of another school, to say the least. And that's about it for the social aspect. But the classes are tough as hell and it's hard to go through 5 days a week of stress and not be able to unwind because of the lack of social life. But you get used to it.
Holy. This makes me not regret going to NYU over CMU lol. I was accepted to CMU as well but I didn't like their program at HSS.

@infiniteIQx: Yeah, that kind of sucks. NU is still a great school, I don't really feel like I'm missing out on much by not going to an Ivy League. My brother went to Columbia but I don't think he got that much more compared to what I'm getting here.

@Pr3stig3: Yeeeh, parties are iight. Some of the concerts that are sponsored by the school are nuts. Major Lazer and Method Man last weekend were much better than I expected. And then there's Dillo Day of course.

I don't think I could've gotten into UChicago (I applied early decision to NU, so I don't know), but I don't think I would've wanted to go there even if I got in. The social setting is a lot less laid back from what I've heard and it's much more competitive. Cornell I hear is just a little bit depressing.

@infiniteIQx: Lol yeah, my parents are all about "college rankings" and crap. They only wanted me to go to a "Top 10" university, instead of what I truly wanted to do

I haven't applied to any business schools yet. I'm in the process of taking my GMATs (the MBA entrance exam). I currently have a job lined up after college as an implementation consultant, so I want to work for 1~2 years before I go off to grad school.
@lawlerskates: Agreed. I've been to all three, and NW has the best parties. UChicago is filled with awkward kids devoid of any social aptitude. Are you accepted to Harvard?
Also, yeah NU is amazing. I can't believe I gave it up, but my parents were all about the "Ivy League name" (which is sadly given to Cornell, Brown, and Dartmouth -_-) and the fact that Cornell Engineering is ranked higher than McCormick SEAS.

Yeah, I didn't see much fun in it till my friend said he'd dorm with me and bring a 27" TV.

Edit: Just kidding, though. It's more about the people and not the surroundings. Cornell seems to lack in that, especially compared to Northwestern and NYU (which I didn't even bother applying to). The people are all cutthroat and less personable in general. Kind of discouraging.

Edit: @Reasonable Columbia is amazing. The campus lacks compared to Cornell, but I've always loved NYC. It's gunna be hard giving up a city for a small ass town like Ithaca.
A friend of mine got recruited to play soccer for Drexel!

I'm debating between University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill and East Carolina University.
UNC is a great school and I'd probably have academic competition over there and they have a great pre-med program.
ECU has a great Honors College for pre-med students and a possibility to have assurance into their medical school while in undergrad. I'd also be assured to come into there as a sophomore credit-wise, it's a party school, I'd most likely have less competition, despite it's stigma it still has good programs for what I want to get into, and the medical school has a great emergency medicine program, which is what I eventually want to get into after medical school.

I want to attend either Harvard business school, or UCLA Anderson/UCBerkeley Haas. I guess that really depends on whether I want to stay on the east coast in the future, or move to the west coast.
