Guide to the Nightlord Path- Post Justice/Revamp

[header=Intro.]Intro.[/header]

As promised, an updated guide to post Thief/Pirate Reorganization. This guide will be a CONSTANT WORK IN PROGRESS at all times, so always check back every so often for any changes and such. Please bear with me while I transition from sketchy data to more solid and thoroughly examined/experimented information.

Originally I wanted to just modify the guide that's already up but unfortunately I can't change the title so it's misleading to have Post-Big Bang in the title. I've submitted a ticket to either remove that guide or have the Basil staff replace that guide with this one.

Thank you for your patience and as always, feel free to PM me or post publicly to have your questions answered as it's better to share the questions that to ask in a 1 to 1 scenario.

-1 Double Stab
Reason: First job is probably the easiest area to level. By going Haste first, you increase your mobility. Damage doesn't entirely matter at these 20 levels since you'll still be getting a median EXP per hour/distribution. You can go for Lucky Seven first for more damage, but again there's a higher MP consumption.

Reason: Venom and TT are interchangeable. The rush max of ETSH is a must in my opinion. Shade Split would be a primary mobbing ability in place of Avenger since it attacks around you, and ETSH can buff that damage output as well as your TT damage and just about everything else. You can max either Venom or Triple Throw after since you'll still be out damaging your Lucky Seven damage with just a single point into Triple Throw. Eventually you max just about everything.

Reason: Again, a single point in Quad Star is actually enough for the initial 20 or so levels. Maxing Claw Expert and Dark Harmony will pump your range and damage significantly in all areas compared to just Quad Star rush. After 160, max accordingly whatever you haven't. You might not be able to get Maple Warrior 30, so stick with 20 or 19 and pump into Shadow Shifter. Sudden Raid, Frailty Curse, Toxic Venom and Taunt come after.

[header=APBuild]APBuild[/header]
So a lot of you know what the general AP categories are: DEXless, LowDEX and Reg/High DEX.

Some of you may, however, be wondering, "How much DEX makes up ___DEX?" Well here is how it is defined in a GENERAL sesnse.

[*]DEXless
Base DEX 4/25 (UA/Regular Adventurer)
Controversially, it can be 25-49 base

[*]Low/Normal DEX
Base DEX 50-100

Q: Hey iPro, why are you only stopping at 50-100 DEX? Why not more?
A: Since we finally have a Physical Training of our own, we have 30 DEX right off the bat. That's a SIGNIFICANT amount of DEX that we're getting free. Even for a low/poorly funded Hermit/Nightlord, you can easily wear Reverse/Timeless items let alone Pirate and Osfa. I would recommend the cap be something like 50-60 DEX but the last 40 is just there for marginal purposes.

NOTE: For those interested in getting the Raven Chaser set, you can cheat the system into thinking you have the DEX requirement when you really don't. The only requirement to do this is to buy a Dexterity Potion lv 8+, one that gives you 30+ DEX. Once you equip a piece of the Raven Chaser set, you just added DEX into your DEX pool to fool the system, so if you're relying on a CZak to get the overalls on, you can put on the Overalls, the gloves, the cape and the shoes on, then swap your CZak for a Chaser Hat to get the 5 piece set effect 20 stat bonus. But by the time you get to this stage, you've already fooled the system by a mile. You can now right click on the Dexterity potion buff on the top right corner and you'll lose the potion bonus, but you can still equip the Raven Chaser set despite the mathematical fact that you don't have the DEX once you deduct the piece DEX stats and the set bonus. It does sound confusing but if you play around with the idea, I'm sure you'll be able to grasp it.

'What should I upgrade next'?

Keep in mind the following:
Level 80 Thief equips require 120 DEX to equip
Level 90 Thief equips require 130 DEX to equip
Level 100 Thief equips require 140 DEX to equip
Level 110 Thief equips require 150 DEX to equip
Level 120 Thief equips require 160 DEX to equip
Level 130+ Thief equips require 170 DEX to equip

The following is a breakdown of a generic buildup of equips to let your wear pirate top/bottom or better

 Base DEX (4-60 recommended)
 Helm (22) 100%d CZak
 HTP (22) Average
 Rings (24) 2x Level 17 BB ring + Evo3 10
Shoulder (5) Silent Crusade Shoulder Clean
Belt (5+) Level 80 Belt: Sharp Blue Buckle Belt
 Bounty Hunter Badge (5)
 Medal (2-6)
 Physical Training (30)
Total: 119+

Note: That this is just a general layout. You can swap out pieces wherever you please, add DEX here and there, anywhere. The above is using 4 DEX base and 2DEX from medal, which totals to 119. If you have more base, then of course add more.
[header][/header]

[header]MOST IMPORTANTLY[/header]
Remember that damage is not always king. It's about having fun, exploring, making friends, and maybe even new enemies (not really). Don't always worry about your damage.

Remember that no matter how much money you spend on getting the best possible items, there will always be one person who can get better, and this goes on and on, so why waste your efforts and money getting godly, when you're fine just the way you are.

Credits go to sources accordingly (will list them thoroughly soon).
Major credits to BasilMarket and the community.
Maxing Shadow Stars before Shadow Partner, thoughts? My reasoning behind it is that Shade Splitter will eat your stars so fast (given the fact that level 1 is fairly weak). Kind of just curious.
You're fairly close to training spots nowadays; the only reason you would want to do that is to stay at a map longer, which happens to apply to Aliens and Jesters. I personally avoid those spots at peak times but if you're wanting to do that then it's fine. It's like what, 10 SP to max it?. Get at least 1 Shadow Partner before maxing Shadow Claw as it is an immediate damage boost. There is also Shuriken Burst, it's faster than Shade Split and can be better in certain situations. Use that for now.

Edit: As this guide is a mess at the moment, you guys might want to refer to this thread (Night Lord Guide-Post Justice).

Wow, @iProxD. Not a good start to a guide with all these criticisms.

A lot has been said already, so I'd recommend getting 1 Venom as early as 71 just for the DoT effect it would provide for L7/TT/Shuriken Burst/Wind Talisman/Shade Split as opposed to maxing ETSH very early.

-toxic venom needs max venom to be unlocked, so don't give the user the illusion of choosing tt or venom to max from
-you might want to include the cannoneer link skill that gives +15 to all stats

lots of people have pointed out things, i dont think i need to repeat what they said
Since this guide is so off, Could anyone give me another better guide that actually makes sense? Thanks!
1st Job:
1 L7 > Max Haste > Max L7 > Max Dark Sight > Max Nimble Body > 1 Double Stab

2nd Job:
1 FJ > 1 Shuriken Burst > 5 Mastery > 6 Booster > Max Critical Throw > Max Mastery > Max Flash Jump > Max Shuriken Burst > Max Booster > 11 Gust Charm
Add Physical Training wherever you need DEX to equip something.

3rd Job:
1 Shade Splitter > Max Shadow Partner > Max Shadow Stars > Max Shade Splitter > Max Expert Throwing Star Handling > Max Enveloping Darkness > Max Alchemic Adrenaline > Max Venom > Max Dark Flare > Max Shadow Web > Max Gust Charm > 2 Triple Throw

Dark Flare and Venom and Gust Charm are only useful in Party Play Zones where monsters do lots of damage and have lots of HP which is why they're pushed back. Move Adrenaline to the end if you use Elixirs.

4th Job:
1 Quad Throw, 1 Shadow Shifter, 1 Toxic Venom > 1 Sudden Raid, 1 Dark Harmony if you want an 11 Attack Buff that lasts for 93 seconds > Max Quad Throw > Max Dark Harmony > Max Claw Expert > Max Toxic Venom > Max Shadow Shifter > Max Purge Zone > Max MW > Max Hero's Will > Max Sudden Raid > Rest in Taunt

Put 1 HW wherever you need it
alternatively, people are doing Claw Expert and Dark Harmony first builds. QT gives a boost to itself while Expert and Harmony boost everything. I don't have numbers so for now it's up to preference.

Your final SP count is off by two points. If you had chosen to max everything but Sudden Raid, then Sudden Raid would be at 28.

Also:

"Shade Split would be a primary mobbing ability in place of Avenger since it attacks around you, and ETSH can buff that damage output as well as your TT damage and just about everything else"

What. ETSH only affects Shuriken Burst, Gust Charm, TT, and Lucky Seven. Doesn't affect Shade Split or anything after that. Also, Shuriken Burst can be considered more like Avenger. The only differences being that Shuriken Burst mobs less, is weaker, and is much faster than Avenger. Depending on the situation, it could be better to use Shuriken Burst rather than Shade Split. SB being more useful when you don't really want to be inside of the mob a whole lot.

Although this guide looks promising, I agree with @McAwesomesauce.

There are many flaws in the guide that can hinder future training, bossing, and PvP. I can tell that the person who ends up following your guild through third job will find a hard time training. Your builds are not efficient. Shuriken Boost has more DPS than Gust Charm, so it should be maxed. Also, what is the point of knocking back a monster? We can hit close range now.

Triple Throw is rendered useless to a Night Lord now that we have Quadruple Throw. I highly recommend not maxing it at all.

My recommended fourth job build is to go:

1 Toxic Venom, 1 Quad Star, 1 Claw Expert
Max Claw Expert
Max Quad Star
Max Venom
Max Dark Harmony (Do this before SS. Why? If you kill the monster faster, you don't have to avoid it. )
Max Shadow Shifter
Max Frailty Curse
Max Sudden Raid
Max Maple Warrior (Why so late? Most parties provide MW30+ already. SH, LHC, etc. Unless you boss on your own, it's not necessary.)
Max Hero's Will (Try to max this somewhere in between any of the skills above if you decide to do harder bosses.)
Max Taunt (It was a useless skill before, and it's a useless skill now. Although the bonus EXP/meso is nice, you don't have to worry about it if you're killing so fast.)

As @McAwesomesauce said, there's just way too many flaws and it's hard to pinpoint everything. I say delete everything, think about how would someone feel if they went through your build and how would they train, and then start again.

Claw Expert first isn't too bad. QT first is better but with the difficulty in getting coins it doesn't matter since the only coin giving events are for leveling up, party quests and Monster Park. By the time you got those 55 coins you'll have an excess of SP to allocate because your level will be high.

I'm going QT > Dark Harmony > Claw Expert > Toxic Venom > Shadow Shifter if you care. Naturally, that's also what I'd recommend.
That guide is horrible.

You leave your 2nd job mob skill unmaxed to max a rush skill with a delay that only attacks in a straight line.

You max Physical Training before you have a mobbing move.

You max goddamn Shadow Star and ETSH before Shadow Partner. Are you serious? ETSH's most significant boost is to Shuriken Boost which you didn't even bother to max.

Your third job mobbing skill is ridiculously late and after your HP boost skill. Where are you training where you'd need that much HP? What business do you have there when your main mobbing attack is Gust Charm of all things?

You bother to entertain the notion of maxing Triple Throw and it's so stupidly close to when your get QT too. That's like telling a Bowmaster that Strafe and Arrow Rain are equally important. That's like telling a Corsair that Triple Fire is a good substitute for Rapid Fire. That's like telling anyone anything ridiculously stupid.

You ignore how Shadow Web can trap monsters in the range of Purge Zone and Dark Flare. It's great for PvP when it comes back and it's DoT can stack with Venom. Meanwhile, Triple Throw is on your keyboard for no reason because it is only ever used to kill Manon and Griffey.

You suggest that anyone with more that 25 points in Dex still counts as No DEX and then recommend that people add lots of points into DEX. No it doesn't matter how unfunded you are because if you add a single point into DEX you will regret it just like everyone else in the history of Maple who ever added to their secondary stat and then had excess of if when they inevitably upgraded.

You pus Dark Harmony before Quad Throw. Yeah, Dark Harmony all of your other skills but you clearly don't see the use in Shade Splitter, Quad Throw and Shuriken Burst so where the hell is the 40 attack going?

There are more flaws but I don't feel like going through and rewriting your awful, awful guide for you.

My god, how can you be level 170 and be so bad at being a Thief?

yes i mad
Yes, I have a NL that I play often and it is irrelevant that my listed main is a Marksman.

Yes, I care about this thread because you are telling people to do straight up stupid crap with their characters.

No, I don't care if it "all works out in the end" because the point of a skill build is to maximize efficiency. That means running a marathon in a straight line (like a rational human being) and not hopping backwards in a zigzag while drinking your excrement out of yourself with a modified straw system that you spent weeks designing whose sole purpose is to deliver your own fecal matter into your mouth (which is your guide).

tl,dr: your guide is bad and you should feel bad
This guide seems flawed somewhat, so 'll ask you a question about the build. Should i max claw expert or quad throw first? I have like 11 sp saved and accidently got the claw expert maastery book instead of QT. Are there any notable significant advantages with claw expert first or should i just farm 55 coins for QT?

Maxing Triple Throw or Shuriken Burst doesn't matter. It's like the old Drain vs Booster. You won't be using Triple Throw or Shuriken Burst once you hit 4th job since it'll only be Quad Star and Shade Split.
Except that's wrong. Shuriken Burst is still a great skill to use even during 4th job because of it's horizontal range and attack speed. It's damage is perfectly fine and it's great for dealing with 2-3 mobs when you don't feel like having to tank their damage to get some Shade Splits in.

I'm not saying that any Hermit should go and move points from TT to SB, though. Level 11 is fine until you get spare SP in 4th job that you don't feel like putting into Taunt or Sudden Raid since any more than 1 in each is basically useless.

I love the ending note. It's so wonderfully true.

TO THE FIRST COMMENT: Gosh it really is a game and its about having fun and relaxing. Not becominG obsessed with your damage. (although i do try to improve my own)

Maxing Triple Throw or Shuriken Burst doesn't matter. It's like the old Drain vs Booster. You won't be using Triple Throw or Shuriken Burst once you hit 4th job since it'll only be Quad Star and Shade Split. Taunt and Sudden Raid again would be negligible since Sudden Raid would still have a fairly long CD, and it's only 1 second per point into Sudden Raid. The damage is almost negligible since it's non-spammable and crit also plays a role.

@Ickest, they may blow to you since 99% of the community would go from Scarecrows to Jesters to MP3/Aliens to LHC to SH, basically only 4-5 training spots starting at level 40 to 200.

@iProxD: When you do the Mushroom Kingdom quest line, and you make it to the King Pepe boss, just keep killing him over and over again.

Easy 4.7k EXP, and NOBODY can KS you!

Also, check level 122.
