I agree, the idea of a relationship is you two being on the same team. That being said, the other persons success should be good news for you even though it may be something you wanted yourself. In the end you're looking out for your significant others best interest along with your own. If she's successful be happy for her and use it as motivation to better yourself. If you turn a "friendly competition" into a rivalry then you'll be looking for a new girlfriend soon.

You guys shouldn't hate on him. I mean, it's hard not to feel completely inferior in this kind of situation. If you honestly care that much, then spend your time studying or playing sports to get good at them. Or enter a whole new area of skill (like drawing, coding, etc) that you can exceed in.
