just a random question

Do people in university have social lives? I'm going into neuroscience (hopefully) but I don't want to study for 18 hours a day... How do people organize their lives? I want to be able to go out on weekends, work out at least 3 times a week for an hour a day, play video games for at least 4 hours a week and just be able to relax. So please share your experience.

Thanks

Doesn't matter how busy you are, anyone can find 3 hours a week to work out.

Some people are miracle workers, and they seem to have all the free time in the world, yet they still have A's in all their classes. Such as my brother's roommate last year.
My brother, on the other hand, needs to work his ass off all the time to get his good grades. But he also chooses to go do social things as much as possible, so he gets very little sleep, which is probably bad.

Ever seen the triangle with "grades", "social life", and "sleep"? You get to choose two, and the other one is significantly lacking.

It depends on the person

I partied quite often in first year, only went to two second year, because I felt I didn't enjoy it as much.
That said, I don't have many close friends at the school, so my social life is limited to begin with.

(i) Don't go out partying multiple times every single weekend

(ii) Limit yourself to just a few hours of video games/Netflix/YouTube/etc. per week if you can... but don't feel guilty if you have to binge-watch Netflix or spend a night relaxing on League of Legions to unwind.

(iii) Satisfy your need for social interaction by studying with friends and classmates

(iv) (But also take time to really buckle down and study by yourself)

(v) Have a flexible schedule and if you don't finish something one night, stay up late later finishing it. In highschool you had strict schedules for everything, but in University it'll be more about learning at whichever way you feel is best

Feel free to ask more questions

Time management. First year is all about dipping your toe in the water and from then on, you'll know how to manage your time better.
