what's the point of this word filter?

this word filter only hinders everyone. The word filter is also easy to bypass. It serves no purpose besides annoying everyone. </3

people are already informed of the rules. they agreed to them before they signed up. if they break any of the rules, it is their fault and their fault alone. A word filter isn't necessary
The rules don't specify which cusswords are taboo and which aren't. On top of that people don't read them, or they just scan them and don't read them very thoroughly. We need the filter, not only to keep foul language off the site and prevent people from discussing subjects that is taboo, it also prevents users from being suspended if they didn't read the rules or don't know which words can't be said (because the only list containing such words is the filter).
Sure, it's buggy, annoying and can be bypassed, but it's not only in our interest.
EDIT: Even though I have Chrome I agree all the text you write shouldn't be erased. :X It'd be nicer if you were sent back to a post submission screen with the text still intact and the bad words highlighted.
At the moment I'm so glad Chrome has this feature because I'm still having that "sent to empty auction search page" problem and it took me about 7 tries to insert this edit. >.<

Oh.. THAT'S where I heard that before..!
I dunno... I don't use any of those "esoteric" browser things.
As I've said a few times Bob, Chrome has a feature similar to Lazarus automatically built in.

I'm not sure why it does that sometimes. I've typed many of my (patented) wall-o-text answers in the Tech forum only to have the filter object to some obscure character string somewhere and lose the whole thing.
I used to try to remember to CTRL+C copy the whole thing before hitting submit, but I'd forget way too often.
I finally ended up getting a Firefox AddOn called "Lazarus" that automatically saves whatever you type into forms on web sites, so when the Basil editor screws up and loses your text it's easy to just right-click in the Submit box and recover everything you'd typed before.
I think it's available for Chrome too, though I'm not 100% on that.
Edit- the rules don't specifically spell out every single possible infraction, (for example the string in your screenshot) so people won't necessarily know what they can and can't type. The filter lets them know, and THEN if they say it anyway, it's on them.

using google chrome can stop that. Though I haven't gotten many filters (yet), I am sure that Google Chrome will save it
The point of the word filter is to INFORM people that what they said is inappropriate to post on this web site.
Yes it can be bypassed, which is why filter bypasses receive a suspension. That shows careless disregard for the rules, not an inadvertent "slip of the fingers".
The character string in your screenshot is the domain for known malware sites. It's filtered to help protect Basil users from people posting harmful links.
It can be a pain, but it's not all that hard to reword your post to eliminate something that triggers the filter, or to use different words if it's just an accidental filter match.
And it gives you a chance to rethink what you're saying if it WAS a deliberate filter match, before you get in trouble for breaking the rules of the site.

If the word filter was so easy to bypass why do you say
"i can't type anything anymore"
i didn't know that what i typed was against the word filter. i could bypass it if i wanted to though.
@Evilcookie33 people can still advertise regardless. as you can see from the first post, the filter is easy to bypass
I ctrl+C before i submit just in case
It's there so people won't start advertising websites that could be harmful or keep off these bandwagoners from using these things like something to the leg area repeatedly till it fills over 20 pages.
If the word filter was so easy to bypass why do you say
"i can't type anything anymore"
