You can turn it into a Khanjar or Dragon Khanjar, those kind of look like swords.

You'll have to anvil your shield into another shield if you want it to look different, you can't anvil a shield into a weapon.

You can only anvil it into something of the same item type.
So for example shield -> shield, 1h sword -> 1h sword, staff -> staff, wand -> wand, etc
