Polyamory is definitely a thing that people do. To the point where I'd say it's even the norm in... certain circles.

I once watched a news story of polygamy in America. You have to be raised in a closed religious community where girls born there are indoctrinated to believe that intercourse is positive and the greatest thing to be close to God. Boys born there are pushed out of the community because the old guys want to keep the harem to themselves. Disgusting humans
not really, you either get close to one of the girls in the group and start dating while progressively stop hanging out with the others.
if you're not dating any of them and remain as friends, well, the best possibility is that you're gay or they think that you're gay.
