Samurai champloo good anime to watch?
Never really been the mainstream anime lover (dont watch anime that much)
only watching great animation films i.e spirited away
my friend she recommended i should watch samurai champloo as my first anime series
thoughts about it? hows the plot? hows the characters?

Anything by Shinichiro Watanabe is pretty much awesome. Samurai Champloo is a good series if you like feudal era Japan settings (and don't mind a little hip-hop flavour put in).
Though really, I'd look at Cowboy Bebop before anything - it's a masterpiece start to finish (and widely considered one of the best anime series out there).
I love Samurai Champloo for multiple reasons: the unique blend of hip hop with edo period japan, the soundtrack (introduced me to nujabes), the characters (Mugen is hilarious and Jin is just awesome). The story was decent enough too. I'd say definitely worth a watch.
I didn't like it nearly as much as Cowboy Bebop and they were made by the same creator. That said it's a very memorable and awesome show.
It's extremely good. It's not even that mainstream really..
Its an awesome anime, didnt even know it was considered mainstream, or probably not back when i watched it.

Samurai Champloo and Spirited Away are actually both pretty mainstream. Anyway its a great anime, im sure you will enjoy it.

I ended up getting bored towards the end. i guess i get bored towards the end of every anime I watch now that I think about it.
