It's written pretty clearly in game...
Protection Scroll will prevent your item from blowing up
Shield scroll will prevent your item from losing a slot if the scroll fail
SHIELDING WARD will prevent your item from blowing up
Guardian Scroll will prevent the SCROLL from being used if it fails
Superior Shielding ward as the exact same effect as shielding ward, but it works on superior equips (tyrants, novas and heliseum)

Oh and there's no such thing as protection ward...

one does one thing and the other does the other, so if you want to protect the slot AND the item, you'll have to use both before every 9th anniv scroll.

Shield scrolls protects the slot, protection scroll protects the item from blowing up
