Are Windows 8 and Maplestory incompatible?
I've just recently downloaded Maplestory and have installed all the files, so I should be ready and raring to go, right? Well.. I've tried Gamelauncher at least 30 times, all to no avail. I can't even open the game. The interface doesn't even pop up!
I've tried loading it via the website, but it still won't work!
What am I to do?
I have 8 gigs of ram, 500 gigs of usable hard drive space.. My only weak point is that darn Windows 8 OS.
I wanna play. :c

I had this problem when I first downloaded maple on my windows 8. So I deleted it and got my brother to xfer his maplestory files via a USB, and it worked.
TLDR : ew, windows 8.
i se dat i crai evrytim
right click the maplestory gamelaucher in ur nexon folder and set its compatibility settings to windows xp and running as administrator. Try this it might work
Maple runs fine on windows 8. There's something preventing it from running, try closing excess programs with a task manager.
The Windows 8 isn't the problem. Myself, and many others, run the game on Win 8.
1. It could be an overly sensitive antivirus program that's blocking access, or a problem with your network firewall settings.
2. A problem may have occurred while you were reinstalling the program, such as a missing file. You might want to try it once more before coming to conclusions.
3. If you're trying to log on from outside of GMS's service region, it's likely an IP block. I doubt that's the case though.
4. You said you tried at least 30 times. Have you tried restarting the computer in between attempts?
Also, try opening the Task Manager (ctrl alt delete), go to "processes", and try pressing "end process" for anything related to Game Launcher, MapleStory, Nexon Game Manager, whatever.
@JiminyRobins:
I think a usb works the same as an external harddrive so it should work the same
@Burning: Well, okay, my computer is essentially stock. Nothing downloaded that could affect Maplestory aside from Malwarebytes and Avast.
Yes and no. Without more detailed information about both the computer and the software that's been installed, there's no way to determine if there's something interfering with Maplestory or if there's something missing that prevents it from initiating normal operation.
Regardless, I am highly skeptical that the problem is attributed to the operating system because the majority of Windows 8 (and Windows 7) users who play Maplestory do not experience any problem at all. It just happens to be that those who experience trouble are the most vocal about it hence the existence of this Tech subforum.
@Burning: That wouldn't explain why I can't reach any form of interface.
It's far more likely to be a program incompatibility with HackShield. Causes vary by case, but the most common were missing runtimes and/or conflicts with antivirus software and bloatware.
@daviddabest: Do you know if I can use an external harddrive to achieve the same results?
I use windows 8 but i put maplestory onto a flash drive and run gamelauncher through a shortcut on my desktop
Steps I used:
1.) download maplestory to desktop
2.) put maplestory onto usb
3.) right click gamelauncher and select create desktop shortcut
4.) doubleclick desktop shortcut
5.) Press play once you can
^How i run maplestory
@iHeroYuri: Before I uninstalled and reinstalled Maplestory, I could get get to the world selection screen, however, I would end up receiving a message along the lines of "Having trouble logging in?"
So I, urm, reinstalled it. I think I broke Maplestory.
@kahime: How do I downgrade?
I have Windows 8, and it works fine. o-o It`s some other problem your having.
