What is telecasting?

I feel like I probably shouldn't need ask this, but what is Telecasting? Apparently it's supposed to make you attack faster?

I see. If you ever decide to play another job, same principals apply:
Use the potion immediately after you hit the attack button as the animation begins to completely remove the potion skill delay.
You'll also have to work this sequence out with potions. Never let your pet heal you unless it is absolutely necessary as potion consumption leads to a delay in any skill usage.
If you are hit while using the sequence (queen's claws)

Do the following:
First attack, teleport upwards and attack [YOU HAVE BEEN HIT]
Second attack, the moment after the attack button is clicked and the animation already began, hit the potion button to heal.
Third attack, teleport upwards and attack.
Etc repeat.

Teleport, attack, and potion healing delays should all be juggled correctly to maximize DPS. Most people don't know how to work these mechanics but they're quite simple.

Sometimes the potion delay is still prevalent. As such, you need to do the following:
First attack, teleport upwards and attack [YOU HAVE BEEN HIT]
Second attack, the moment after the attack button is clicked and the animation already began, hit the potion button to heal.
Third attack, without any teleport.
Fourth attack, teleport upwards and attack
Etc repeat.
Essentially, what you need to do in order to telecast is to teleport while in the animation of your current attack. It will let you teleport mid-animation, letting you move around faster and position yourself for another attack. Mages with Teleport Mastery (or Dark Shock for Battlemages) can use this to up their damage output by telecasting through their enemy back and forth, since they do damage while teleporting. On larger bosses that you might not be able to teleport through fully, some mages will teleport directly up or down while standing close enough to the boss to deal damage from teleporting in order to telecast on the spot (or close to). Back when mages couldn't air teleport, this was even more effective, since telecasting while holding up didn't move you anywhere, but did the small teleport blip and still did damage.

Telecasting is a bit more advanced than normal command tricks and not all moves can be telecasted well. You'll simply have to practice and learn what works and doesn't work for you.
Allow me to explain how to correctly use teleport in a fight.

There's a slight delay, as you said, if you are spamming teleport. It goes to say that if you know your proper positioning, you don't need to spam teleport in a fight. Teleport, by definition, is a very defined motion so you can very carefully select your location. That being said, teleport is not used as a defensive measure to run away all the time.

To properly illustrate this, I'll include an example of the use of teleport in an aggressive setting:
The proper usage of teleport in a fight such as chaos queen, when not used to run away or escape, is to stand on top of her body and attack like the following:
First attack, teleport upwards and use your attack.
Second attack, use your attack normally.
Third attack, teleport upwards and use your attack.
Forth attack, use your attack normally.
Fifth attack, teleport upwards and use your attack.
Sixth attack, use your attack normally.
Seventh attack, teleport upwards and use your attack.

Teleporting upwards allows for an extra line of damage to be dealt. When you are a capping fire poison mage hitting 7 lines of 50m on paralyze, that teleport upwards for 1 more line of 50m makes it significant.
With the use of teleport being alternated to use and not use, it avoids any form of delay as the delay only impedes you if you spam teleport, thus making teleport actually attack faster.

Hope this helps. I have yet to see many others really utilize this except for battle mages since they have the idea that teleport = less dps.
I'ma use this when we get telecast.

Slight delay in teleport means you actually attack slower (assuming you're just spamming attacks). Its mainly used for repositioning.
Technically makes you attack faster since you don't have to spend time re-positioning yourself.
Let me add to that, telecasting most commonly used in a boss fight as means to dodge obstacles.
Like telecasting away from magnus falling debris, empress genesis, or vellum's tails, as primary example

While at the same time you keep attacking to save time

Telecast makes it you can teleport while casting and not need to wait to cast again if you didn't use it

The only thing about this is its to hard to keep doing this for every kill i can do it sometimes but its just not worth it cause its to hard

Telecasting in the act of using a skill while teleporting simultaniously.
Most mages can properly tetlecast nearly every skill.
To perform, simple use the skill (attack, in most cases) and while it is being casted, teleport sideways.

You might have been doing this all along without knowing this is what it's called.

Teleporting while you're in the middle of casting a skill.
Great for re-positioning.
