Is Destiny worth getting?

I have been interested in it for awhile, love games like Halo/CoD/etc and have a chance to buy a copy for $35.
I've also played around 10minutes of the campaign and thought it seemed cool, but 10min isn't much.

Should I buy it?

@ox0Shad0w0xo Thank you for explaining so clearly You've helped me understand much better. If I can't find any other game to get, which is unlikely, I might still get Destiny since the gameplay itself isn't bad from what you say, i've seen and the small amount i've played.

@JoeSycop It's not so much that it was over-hyped. They're using the wrong word in that sense. Most of people's problem with the game is that they basically gutted the campaign partway through development. The main story left so many things unexplained and unanswered and a lot of the cutscenes have characters say essentially "I could explain this, but I won't." The ending was left really open sort of like a "to be continued" type of thing. And to make it worse, there were tons of things already on the disc (as discovered through some unintended glitches) that were just locked and hidden until the dlc was released. So the obvious intention was to charge for a full price game, then sell the remainder of the story at a later date.

People use the word "over-hyped" because it was advertised as a game with an amazingly in-depth story, but what people got was a $60 pricetag for $15 worth of content and $20 dlc's that add a little story at a time. So yes, it got a lot of hate.

That's not to say the game play itself is bad, I mean Bungie did make a name for itself by making good shooting games. It's nothing revolutionary, it definitely has it's faults, but it does the job well enough. It's just the rest of the game falls flat on it's face.

Most people's main problem seems to be that it was over-hyped which is a very dumb point. Over-hyping a game doesn't make the actual game any worse, you just imagined it better than it actually was. They don't need to over-hype the game, most people will with just their imagination.

However some people have provided very helpful information, thank you. <3
He pretty much summarized everything I was going to say. The multiplayer is broken and the campaign was very under-whelming. The ONLY thing I liked about the game was some of the maps. I will admit, I liked a lot of 'em and they were generall well-designed. Destiny is just a classic example of juggernaut gaming developers capitalizing from their juggernaut publishers + being backed by marketing. I really, really wanted to enjoy the game but I couldn't even rationalize keeping it.
Yea the ONLY good thing about the game was the art team, the soundtrack (they fired Marty O'Donnel after he finished it. What a bunch of D-Bags!), and the actual gun-play(Part of what makes it addicting). Outside of that... please just don't give them your money... please

No. Its a waste of time and money. Bungie really knows how to hype up games, but it was a huge disappointment.

Stay far away from that game dude. It's a very addicting game with very little content in it. It's even more soul-less than solo endgame Maplestory. The campaign is neat but it's only like 4-5 hours, and even still it's just "defend dinklebot" for the entire duration with the worst ending in video game history. And on top of that they want $20 for each DLC which features about 3-4 new missions, 1 new strike, and 1 Raid, all of which lasts about 2-3 hours. And if you DONT get the DLC then you're gonna have to deal with a lack of Crucible maps and weekly Strikes/Bounties that are DLC only so you don't get to participate. As well as weapons you can't upgrade without the DLC and whatnot. PvP is also broken AF and you'll get more rage out of that than Call of Duty which is what used to be Rage Incarnate.

Easy summary:
It's an addicting, heartless, content-less cash grab game that intends to rob you so you can grind for countless hours on the same missions and strikes with no point at all outside of "cuz higher level" even though it seems to do jack diddly. Stay far, far away from that game and don't become one of those suckers who've wasted all their time on it.
It was probably the most over-rated, awful shooter I've played in a long time. Please save your money.
Can you possibly name some faults with it?
