Don't need to kill Latanica for Krexel. Just talk to the homeless dude in Boat Quay and he'll guide to towards Ulu City to do prequests.
You need the soul lantern (dropped by latanica) to even get into krexel.
Lets see Hilla has no prequest, no spawning item, and can be reached from all corners of the map (in towns, through the dimensional door) BUT she has high elemental resist ( you lose ~50% of your damage) DR, and a couple other annoying things like the hilla tower that draws you to it.
Zak has a prequest, requires eye of fire, and you have to walk all the way over there from elnath. It has 8 arms, each of which give decent exp for 100-130 and almost no damage resist (but has magic/physical superguard)
Pick your poison.
My favorite is Krexel gives 11mil exp per eye, has tons of drops, and is KINDA easy to reach (about the same as zak) BUT it has an annoyingly LONG prequest (need to kill latanica, the preq for latanica, and then the prequest for krexel), needs you to be lvl 150 minimal to start, and it only resets every 24 hours rather than at midnight.

I agree with everything you have said 100 godamn percent. It was definitely NOT p2w back then, it was pay to look cool for 90 days. I REALLY miss that. Cubes honestly just ruined the game. That's when Nexon realized they can make HUGE bucks off of innocent people. I agree that a lot of good changes have come, but people who say that the game is better than it was in 06 - 08 are just delusional.
I could very easily be wrong, but I swear back in old old Maple, NX items lasted 30 days (?) If/When they actually changed it to 90 is one small update I can agree with.
@voidjames: No, the game didn't just evolve. Otherwise, it would still be in good shape. Constant updates are GREAT and are suggested. What ruined the game?
Too many classes, for one. It took 55 versions for Pirates to be released, another 28 for Arans to be released (with CKs, not really main classes, being released somewhere in the middle), and Evan and DB finished Pre BB maple. 93 versions of Maplestory went by, and we only have 8 classes! (Again, CKs don't really count because they play the same as the main adventurer characters). We are not even another 93 versions in yet, and how many classes do we have now? Absolutely disgusting, just unnecessary overflow of classes.
Next: the potential system. Made hundreds of players bankrupt INSTANTLY, by nullifying their godly saunas/skandas/Zhelms and making them near worthless. Also made the game p2w, and made the game all about cubes.
Next: not Big Bang; Big Bang definitely eased the leveling system and actually made Fourth Job a reality for many players. Nope, I would have to go with Chaos Update. Removed LHC, arguably the sole reviver of Party Play and community play in post-BB Maplestory (and even changed the Login music; not for too long, because Nexon realized how absolutely stupid it was to remove the old login music. The community backlash actually reached them for once).
And finally, I'm not sure which update it was because I quit when it came out, but the one that changed the level cap to 250 and made 1-200 an absolute joke served as the final nail in Maplestory's coffin. If getting a level 200 is literally as easy as getting to 50 back in 2007, then is it even an achievement anymore? The answer is no; and I can attest to that. I had my first level 200 a few weeks ago, and it honestly felt like just another level. Extremely disappointing, as being level 2xx is supposed to be the pinnacle achievement in MapleStory. The new cap is also horrible, as getting to 250 does nothing for your character except for boosting its rankings (no new skills, no new quests, no new maps, no new equips, etc. It's literally just leveling for the sake of leveling.)
tl;dr MapleStory is worse now than it was before because of a number of bad updates, not necessarily just because the game changes. Good changes are good. However, if something isn't broken, don't fix it. Nexon does not understand that (just look at the UI change in v1.48! That will tell you just about how competent they are at running a game). So no, I am not just "being a nostalgic".

@kurorin OMG not this again. It is. Okay? Google some screenshots or something and or go read the update notes carefully. @KyuuKyuuMoar Well dang dude. That's a completely different thread topic.

that chair is not obtainable yet deal with it guys
It should be obtainable since the homepage says that it drops from bosses during the event period and only from May 7th-June 10th through Gachapon. That being said, I haven't found one yet, has anyone found one?

So the game evolved? Imagine if Maplestory was exactly the same as 9 years ago... Nobody would be playing because it would be stale. Get over this nostalgia BS.

Wrong toad. The one that drops is the one in the lvl 170 ninja castle.

Hilla has about the same hp, but physical resist and dr, so zakum is a little easier imo.
zakum is weaker but hilla doesn't have any prequest and is easy to reach the map
Wouldn't it be hilla?
Normal Zakum
