How to select a lead pet?
From AoT patch notes:
Multi Pet Quest Changes
Requirement: Lv. 10 or above
Now you can walk around with multiple pets at one time, and it's easier than ever!
Accept the quest "Trainer's Command" from the light bulb notifier on the left side of the game window.
Purchase a Pet Snack from the Cash Shop.
Complete the quest through the light bulb notifier, and you can now have up to three pets out at one time.
Select a Lead Pet and the other pets will follow its stats and skills.
How on earth do i select a lead pet so every pet gets auto buff?

Your lead pet will be whichever pet is in the first slot.

It literally explicitly states that they're changing it so you only need to buy one auto-buff skill for your lead pet.
heard its "glitched" and you need to buy more pet skills for your new pet.
Equip it first? And if you want auto buff for every pet you need to purchase the skill 3 times.
