Switching classes

Hey guys was just wondering what I should do for my weapon when i switch classes.
I'm switching from a shade to a cannoneer so that i can use the same gear and switch back in like a month or 2 and was wondering if I should prime scroll a cannon or spell trace it.
I dont have enough meso for hundreds of slates but i can afford to purchase 10 prime scrolls and use my pool of nx and the event shop's protection and shield scrolls.
RN i switched over about 10 pieces of gear to train decently but was really disappointed when my cannoneer had 40% of the range my shade has(even though there is a 50 level difference). Should i invest in a perf cannon or naw
