Can we all agree that cyber-bullying isnt real?

Because that's how I feel.

Cyber bullying isnt as cut and dry as people think. Online bullying can range from a boy getting beat up but classmates he never before had interaction with to a girl being sexually assaulted all because the usual faceless bully made people believe in false and demoralizing information on the web.

Just saying to "log off" means that you wont see whats posts or content but that wont solve the problem of others seeing it and possibly acting on what they saw.

I'm not sure if you're serious or not because most people don't agree with this, but I agree. Nothings stopping you from logging off

You get your feelings hurt.

You can't just be like "Stop making the thing that's making you sad make you sad". You don't choose feelings.
Like I get where you're coming from but you can't just look at this objectively. People are emotional beings. I can tell myself "Okay who cares what they think" and I can turn that into a mantra, but it's still going to damage me mentally. I'll never be able to stop thinking about it. It doesn't just go away when you turn off your computer.

Honestly I really don't think this was a good thread to start.

Update: just realized this was a troll thread

Why can't kids just not interact with their peers if they're going to be bullied? It's so simple

are you implying that when someone sends naked pictures to someone whom they thought they trusted, deserves to be sent hateful messages and be told to kill themselves? nah

yeah, ceasing from going on the interwebz can keep you away from the direct bullying, but.. you go to school right?
you have a job right?
you have friends right?
well, say good bye to all of those things because this crap CAN follow you wherever you go

G@y people shouldn't have rights, anyone who isn't white (which is including myself) isn't even a real human being. Jesus is a terrorist, and woman should stay in the kitchen.
If I send around nudes of yours, or start trash-talking you all over social media, or set up a website devoted to hating on you, or spread hurtful rumous about you online, or send threats to you or your family members using the internet, etc
I'm not sure how what you have suggested is going to solve ANY of the problems
This exactly. Cyber-bullying isn't limited to making 1 or 2 hurtful statements to you online. It can be any number of things aimed directly, or indirectly at you. Turning off your computer doesn't turn off the internet. If someone is dragging your name through the mud all over social media, it's not going to erase itself if your computer is suddenly off.

Sure, certain aspects of it can be prevented if you're careful (they can't extort or blackmail you if you don't let anything get onto the internet in the first place), but some things you have no control over. And the internet actually makes tormenting someone easier. Tons of people are always on facebook, instagram, twitter, etc., so imagine how quickly things can spread.
@keane well if it is at school doesn't that make it normal bullying?
@toriLikesyou that ain't happening baby doll
@mitarumetaro If I had nudes of myself spread around the internet, it is my own fault because I took the pictures in the first place. I should have known the possibility of that happening. If you trash talk about me on social media, I can always just stop going on facebook. If you make a website devoted to hating me, I could just stop going to that website. Again if there are hurtful rumors about me, I could stop going online since I have the power to control the medium. And honestly, if someone told me they were going to come to my house and kill me, I wouldn't really believe it. I'm going to go to your house and kill you. Are you scared for your safety now?
...you've missed the point entirely
Someone could PM me on basil and say "HEY YOU KNOW WHAT I HEARD ABOUT FLEXY? I HEARD THAT THEY <something>" And, you know what? I know it's not true. Of course I know that... it's a rumour about me. The internet just facilitates the distribution of that (false) information to PEOPLE WHO AREN'T ME. And these PEOPLE WHO AREN'T ME are people who have a real impact on my life, since... well.... I exist outside of the internet. If I stop going on facebook, that's not going to stop the transfer of information. If anything, it just blinds me to it.

I'm not sure if you're just trying to troll, or if you're actually obtuse as f*

Ok. So cyber-bullying victims should just delete all of their accounts and never go on the internet again? Everything is their fault?
You sound like a cyberbully.
Sorry but your opinion is wrong.
I feel like people can just delete their accounts or not connect to wherever their being bullied and everything will be over. I do understand that people are killing themselves over things being said and I do find it horrible. I just wonder how it's hurtful. Basically all social media websites have tools that can be used to silence those who threaten users. There is no reason that these tools shouldn't be used. To avoid conflict on the internet, you have two options:
1) Use the tools a website provides for dealing with aggressive users. Common examples of these tools include the Block User button, the Report User button, or the Remove Comment button.
2) Turn off your computer and do something else. Nobody is forcing you to take criticism from anyone off the internet.
