Can someone please explain to me the difference in the uses of "wa" and "ga" as a topic particle.

With "ga" the emphasis is on the noun in front of it.
With "wa" the emphasis is on whatever comes after. If that makes sense.
Eg:
kahime-san wa paatii ni ikimasu. -> what's kahime doing? kahime is going to the party.
vs
kahime-san ga paatii ni ikimasu. -> who's going to the party? kahime is going to the party.
