Mage Guide Transformation - Let's get some guides stickied!

Lay your staves at rest, I bear no ill will to my friends of the wood. Instead, I bring a message.

I was talking with B about the whole guide situation, and he agrees that the guides should be way more visible and the old comment system put back into place. The problem? We gotta remove the less used and less updated guides lest they clog up half the forum page with their thick gooey uselessness. We also gotta replace the outdated Pre-BB guides with the brand spankin' new Post-BB guides that I'm sure you've all been cranking out.

Now I've never muttered an incantation before, so I'm not very familiar with how the guides are coming in this part of the forest. Any guides you think should be deleted, and any guides you think deserve a spot in the massive sticky section? The Mage section in particular is filled with a huge number of useless guides and duplicates, so I need as much cooperation as possible.

The criteria for deletion:
[*]Outdated - Anything Pre-BB fits under this category, UNLESS the owner is still active and plans to update the guide.
[*]No Longer Useful - Guides for things that are no longer necessary or weren't super necessary to begin with. If it's got a tiny bit of use, but a vague purpose? The jury's up, but I'd recommend deleting those types. This is NOT the same as outdated. You can update a useless guide all you want and it'll still be useless. Self Deprecating Example. Don't be afraid to nominate guides or guide concepts that you feel aren't necessary.
[*]Duplicated - We don't need 5 different guides dedicated to the same subject. Find the most in-depth and well organized one and keep that one. Ideally, there should be ONE guide for Mage Skill Builds, ONE damage range thread for all Mages, and ONE guide for Mage training. I realize this isn't always possible, but it would make our lives a lot easier, so those guides would get priority assuming they're still awesome. If we can cut those down to size, it gives us a lot more leniency when it comes to the more lucrative guides, such as the ones about Luck:Luckless Mages or the Equips guide.

The criteria for stickies:
[*]Good. - No seriously. If it's clear, makes sense, and is updated, then it's a good guide. I trust the Class Section Veterans when it comes to creating and identifying awesome guides. You don't need guidance here. No guides that fit the criteria? Make one. Here's your chance for a nearly guaranteed sticky -- assuming it doesn't suck.

Select Outdated guides will likely be archived for Pre-BB players. We'll decide that later, just focus on cleaning what's here and now.

It's pretty safe, very in-depth.
Oooh, thank you. Mods have such power. But why can't we delete our own threads, if you don't mind me asking? I don't see any problems that it would cause, in fact, it would help clean up the server. I can see how deleting everything and than locking is almost the same, but if you're thread gets locked without you wanting it to, you're kind of messed up.

Maybe I'll submit the idea to Mr. Basil. Maybe he'll give me a cookie.
Trolls. They could get off scott-free and still cause havoc.

Count me in! I'll probably level slower than you, but I've been wanting to make one.

What guide?

Hmm... Can I suggest a different format? I think it would be easier to make one guide for F/P's, one guide for I/L's, and one guide for Clerics. Instead of having one guide for training, SP, and damage ranges, involving all 3 types of magicians in each of those guides. The reason is, most people specialize in only one type of magician. So, you would have to get 3 people to manage each of those guides.

As for guide duplicates (speaking of duplicates, see bottom, I need your help Kevvl), each guide it seems has something that the others are missing. I/L's it seems have 3 very nice guides, and it would be a shame to scrap any of them. Of course, I am somewhat saying this out of my own personal interest, since I wrote one of them.

If @Kalemora and @turtlehavoc are willing, we could all manage one guide together, bringing all of our best areas into one guide. It could be done on a mutual Basilmarket account... you know, if that's allowed.

Off Topic, Kindof:

This thread is my old I/L guide, locked a while back from inactivity. I really want it to be deleted, as a lot of the information is outdated, yet people are still finding it and asking me questions about it.

I have no idea how to make a guide.

I'll try though, for a F/P Wizard.
GOOD ONES

http://www.basilmarket.com/MapleStory-Guide-Aiders-Magician-to-Bishop-Guide-269.html this one is good. It was completely revamped XD

http://www.basilmarket.com/MapleStory-Guide-Cleric-Priest-and-Bishop-Training-192.html I guess this one is good too, it is currently being revamped.

http://www.basilmarket.com/MapleStory-Guide-F-P-Mages-EXP-Per-Hour-Rates--Post-Big-Bang-246.html This one is Post-Big Bang.

BAD ONES

http://www.basilmarket.com/MapleStory-Guide-Clerics-165.html It isn't fixed, and he has no recent activity so I guess is isn't being updated anymore.

http://www.basilmarket.com/MapleStory-Guide-Solo-Cleric-228.html It is Pre-Big Bang, and the author doesn't exist anymore apparently O.o

http://www.basilmarket.com/MapleStory-Guide-Compys-I-L-Guide-160.html It is Pre-Big Bang, and the author has no recent activity so I assume he isn't going to update.

http://www.basilmarket.com/MapleStory-Guide-Ice---Lightning-I-L-Mage-191.html He says at the top of his guide that he won't be able to update the guide anymore.

http://www.basilmarket.com/MapleStory-Guide-Fire-Poison-F-P-Wizard-193.html I don't think he is updating anymore, I'm not sure.

http://www.basilmarket.com/MapleStory-Guide-Mage-Training-Areas-255.html Ellinia could update it, I don't know.
This is what I call a useful post.

The General Information about Magicians and Recommend Equips (my guide) has/is transformed. It has all the numbers before Big Bang for players from eMS/bMS to see. It also has the numbers AFTER big bang for kMS/jMS/gMS users. Also the BIGGEST CHANGE WAS making it a ALL MAGE guide, made when Evan came out so it was really Evan based, I changed it that is helping all classes.

The guide is divided into five parts (Table of Content, Intro, Formulas, Skills, Gear/Clothes)
Table of Content [Not fixed, easy fix, this is my last of my worries]
Intro [Nice and fixed for BB ]
Formulas [Up to date ]
Skills [This is new, of course I am not 100% sure what to put in there, what I had before was about Evan skills in cash shop, since I removed that I need to find a way to put that back inside, so working on progress]
Gear/Clothes [Up to date (maybe look into newer items to help since the whole M.atk > INT after BB)]

Overall it is 60% done or 50% done, depends on how you see it.
I don't think there could be 1 mage range guide, mostly cause of potential and also cause unlike Bishop/Bam/Arch, evans get 4 additional equips (the dragon) and therefore get extra stats that way (especially noticable when we get reverse dragon equips at 120).
Just separate the sections, similar to how the Bowman Damage Ranges is.
The problem with any training guide at the moment is that even though Big Bang has been out for nearly a month not much experimenting or revealing of training areas has been done. ><
This is more of a preemptive initiative. If the guide doesn't exist, this'll encourage people making it.
@Kevvl: Oh, missed that. xD. Well thats good. Simply throwing them away would be a waste.

But I honestly think someone higher levelled should do. I'm not popular with the community, plus people 160+ will have more experience.
I still think 160+ people is better than a 160+ person, but it's really up to you

Pre BB, the only one I ever had to use was Aider's Cleric to Bishop guide. It was complete and easy to understand.

Hmm..I think I agree with Angel now, it needs a bit more..content. Ideally though, we'd want one mage training guide that works for everyone.
Keep a guide or two for people in versions without the big bang.

A level 160+ Evan needs to make a training guide. Mine is only temporary for the post-BB chaos of training , plus I'm not high levelled enough to be taken seriously.
Hah! For years the Bowman Training Guide was updated by a level 4x Hunter. Best dang guide on the site, too. Still is. The secret? Community effort.

Also, read the bottom bolded message. We plan to archive the super important guides.

I'd write a guide but people just complain that "the best way to do everything and become extremely successful" does not contain enough variety to qualify as a guide. Pre-BB, I had someone ask me to write a section on how to train to level 200 without Blizzard. ._.

Also, I don't think it's rewarding in any way whatsoever. No one remembers you unless you put your name in through subliminal messaging, and no one properly thanks you either. People just provide criticism, lols.
