Well when you prime the paper first the application of the colour becomes more smooth (in my opinion) make sure it dries first, though, otherwise you might get blotchy or uneven application . I don't remember if you use ciao's or sketch, but an ink bottle should refill a marker like 7 times . Sometimes, its cheaper to buy more than one at the same time off ebay or maybe d...blick.com.

Yeah copic ink is so darn expensive. I have to start buying the refills soon otherwise my markers are going to run out ;A;

To answer your question, for the most part I prime the surface of the areas I want to colour first . I bought the 0-colourless blender to use as a primer, so that when I put on the colour its not just ink going on top of plain paper. It's like putting water before painting with watercolours.

I actually do go out of the lines just a bit sometimes which is easily fixed with a bit of photoshop <3 I'm sure its just as easy to do in SAI
