My youth romantic comedy Snafu

So I just finished the last episode of season 2 and like..
I DON'T GET IT. Why are they always depressed? For what reason. What is the "feeling more sinister than trust" and that bs the sister was sprouting?

Can someone explain the underlying story to me. I feel like I'm missing the big picture.

That "felling more sinister than trust" is Yukino being dependant to others which is something her family sees as a very negative personality, and for the reason they feel depressed is becuase the trio are pretending to be dense which is because they know their relationship won't stay long since the two girls have feelings for 8man so that's why they pretend to not care or not notice, then Yukino's sister called them out by saying "so this is what genuine is".

@LoveMeLater The light novel has 11 volumes out right now, 11 being translated
Yen Press licensed the light novels, so they will eventually take down the fan translations and take literally 10 years to get up to where the translates are right now because of their hella slow translations
The light novels go more in depth in a lot of things so download or read them before they are taken down
You can google if you want to read online
Here's the link the the Oregairu Light novel epubs if you want to download
https://www.m3diafire.com/folder/89du4zd7n3hny/Oregairu
remove the 3

It might be helpful to rewatch season 1 since it aired so long ago, you may find yourself picking up some points developed in the first season that make the less direct scenes in season 2 make more sense.
Maybe its just me, but I found myself forgetting too many things, after the rewatch the actions of the characters in season 2 seem much less nonsensical.

Ich Sehe.

and now we wait 2-3 years for season 3 T.T

Wait, the light novel only has 10 volumes, but the anime covers up to volume 9. Does that mean we'll just get an OVA?

Oh..
Wow, I need to rewatch the series with your commentary or something. Things are clearer now since no one EVER in the anime says anything straightforwardly.

That's one of the main draws of the series. Instead of having everything spelled out for you, its up to you (and the community I guess) to figure out all the complexities and nuances of all the relationships on the show. Its basically just like real life, where you would have trouble figuring out as to what's going on in these type of situations, because everyone is afraid to express how they truly feel.

Another thing I like about Hikki is that he isn't an idiot. On any other harem or harem-esque show, the MC would have no clue that either girl had a crush on them. Hikki is a rarity in that he probably figured it out quite awhile ago, only keeping up the facade for the meantime because he wants to maintain the group's friendship as well.

But they all know its a temporary solution. Nevertheless, we all look forward to seeing how this plays out.

1. Why does hikki cry in that one episode about wanting something genuine? What prompted him?

2. Why were relations strained between him and his sister for a while? What was he apologizing for? What was she apologizing for?
1. I think he cries because he's never really opened up to anyone before. When he finally decides to say he what truly feels, he just cries because those feelings have been building up throughout the years without it being expressed.

2. I actually don't quite remember myself. I think Komachi was telling Hachiman to solve his problems with Yui & Yukino by talking it out, but Hachiman didn't want to do that. So Komachi just backed off. As for why he was apologizing, I think it was just him admitting that she was right. As for Komachi, I think she's apologizing because she's been ignoring him for a while.

Oh what, I never realized that Hikki realized they both like him.

Okay that part made sense now. What about

1. The part where Yukino and Yui both try running for president? Why are they angry that hikki does his pragmatic method of taking the fall for the president girl's first request?

2. Why does the blond guy say he hates hikki?
1. Well, Yui doesn't want to keep watching Hachiman take the fall. She's tired of seeing him get hurt. As for Yukino, it's suggested that she actually wants to be the student council president. It makes sense for her to be mad at Hachiman, if he keeps preventing that.

There's also the fact that both characters don't want Hachiman to keep solving the problems. They're in a club and they should do things together, yet Hachiman is always the one who finds a solution. What's the point of their club if Hachiman is doing everything?

2. For starters, unlike Hachiman, Hayato has to put up a front. Lots of people have high expectations for him, but Hachiman can say and do whatever he wants because well... he's Hachiman. Hayato has to keep an image, but Hachiman can actually say what he feels, since he has nothing to lose. Furthermore, it would seem that Hayato suffers from an inferiority complex. Hayato is insanely jealous that all of Hachiman's plans work. On top of that, Hachiman does them in a rather cruel manner. Hayato is not only losing, but he is basically being outdone as a hero by an anti-hero.

There are two other possible reasons as to why Hayato doesn't like Hachiman, but it's a lot more subtle and less implied than the first two. The first possible reason is that Hayato most likely likes Haruno. It's heavily implied given how he said the person he likes starts with a "Y" and Hayato immediately comes whenever she calls him over. Now, Haruno shows a lot of interest in Hachiman, so it wouldn't be unreasonable for him to get jealous.

The second possible reason is similar to the first. As stated before, he said he likes a person who starts with "Y", which means there's a chance that the person could be Yukino or Yui. Yukino & Yui are extremely close to Hachiman compared to how Hayato is with them. If it is true that he likes one of them, then again, he's just really jealous.

@LoveMeLater:

Yui tells Yukino that she can solve this whole dilemma they have. As it currently stands, the cast is obviously in a love triangle and Yukino wants the group to stay together. There's also a huge problem with Yukino hiding her feelings.

Yui's suggestion is that she'll end all her problems by getting together with Hachiman. If Yui gets together with Hachiman, the group can stay together, just as Yukino would want, as long as Yukino takes her feelings to the grave.

This is where the "I don't mind" part comes in. She wouldn't mind staying together at the expense of never being able to express her love towards Hachiman and having a relationship with him. As she's about to say it, Yui & Hachiman are clearly bothered by this. Yui wants Yukino to stand up for herself and be forward/honest with her feelings.

Hachiman interrupts the both of them by saying he objects. He doesn't want Yukino to just accept this compromise because it would be superficial. Yukino is only giving an answer because she is being driven into a corner. Hachiman wants Yukino to say her feelings when she feels like it and not when she's being forced to give an answer.

I hope all this made sense.
@pieshadowxx I totally want an explanation on that last scene.

Why was the black haired chick struggling to say "I don't mind?"

I kind of get that Hikki said its better to struggle than have something superficial, but how is their relationship superficial? He been himself all this time, and the other two's personalities didn't change much from season 1
You could view it as superficial because the two girls clearly like him as more than just a friend, but they pretend not to to keep their group of 3. If either of them pursue him romantically it will ruin their group and none of them want that. On the other hand, if they do pretend to only be interested in friendship, they're clearly lying to themselves and to him.

"They're always depressed" because it's quite easy to break apart the relationship they have. No one wants that to happen though. On the other hand, they don't want it to be superficial, so there's no easy resolution to the problem.

The feeling more sinister than trust is dependence.

I'm not sure if you want an explanation for the last scene though.
