Wrist pain and bench pressing

Lately I've been bench pressing more intensively again (getting close to that 100kg again). The problem is that my wrists started hurting during and after the exercise. Is this because I have the wrong technique? Should I strengthen my wrists? I'd love to hear your own experiences with bench pressing so please do share them.
Strengthen your wrists? Wtf are you guys serious? There's no such thing. It just means he's benching too much right now. Not suppose to hurt your wrists at all. Try benching less weight and moving up slower. Dobt bench anything that hurts and yours and wear gloves ofc
I actually meant improving my grip, not necessarily my wrists' strength. I'll use your advices next time I do my triceps/chest routine.. which is next friday lol.

I used to have bad technique and my wrists would hurt, especially when I reached near 90-100 kg
Everyone else was right about keeping your wrists locked and straight, while keeping the most powerful grip you can muster!
Here's a little secret I use, haha:
You have to make sure you're literally "punching" the ceiling
Keep your wrists locked and STRAIGHT to simulate as if you are punching the ceiling each time you do a repetition
(think of someone you don't like and punch 'em )
If your wrists are bending or not "punching" the ceiling, you're not doing it right
You don't punch with a bent wrist, do you?
You don't have to "strengthen" your wrists, although stretching could help & I'm sure you can find exercises to do that
As long as you have the right grip, you'll be fine
Make sure you have someone to spot you and yell at you if your wrists aren't straight, that helps too!

I stopped doing bench press because I kept getting hurt, now I just rep 35kg/75 lb dumbbells
You HAVE to keep your wrist straight when you get up to the 225 pound mark. You just have to. Your wrists may be strong enough with lower weights to bend them, but it's still bad. You're wearing them down. Work on benching a lighter weight with correct wrist form. You do not need to do wrist curls, or anything of that sort. Just learn how to keep your wrists completely straights. Besides, by keeping my wrists straight, it allows me to bench more.
Thanks man. I'll keep that in mind.

Keep your wrist straight, don't curve or bend them or 100kg might be too heavy for you.
Trying to work on your wrist muscle by moving the wrist itself will cause infection in that area. so what im saying is - that you work on your wrist by squeezing your fingers into a fist, over and over again - then apply something to make it harder - by need of course. good luck !
That was actually my first thought. It's generally quite useful to have a good grip considering other exercises also require a good grip (deadlift, barbell curl, etc).

You should stretch your wrist flexors/extensors before you start working out, you can find out how here.
Your form should look like this.
"Wrist Pains". Haha.

Getting back on topic, you shouldn't put a lot of pressure on your wrist because it doesn't have a strong bone and doesn't have a lot of muscle to support it. If you think about it, the only thing wrists help you with are moving your hands. The source of power is in the arms.
What's the joke XD?
100kg is alot, even for a body builder - you should drop some weight and see if the pain is still there... if not - thats your checkpoint. start from there. Try wroking on your wrist with some finger exercise. DO NOT work dierctly on your wrist because it will cause infection. Good luck mate.
Edit : Try to work on your wrist's posture while you do bench presses - with no weight - just the pole.
..what will cause infection? You're confusing me . I will try to work on my wrist's posure while I do my bench press since that's most likely the cause of my problem.

Thanks everyone for the great help.
Yea. Do you recall if your wrists were straight before? Or have you always benched with wrists slightly bent back
I think the latter but I never had any problems with my wrists before. Then again, with a lower weight I don't feel any pain.

@aznanimality: What's that?
@mau5: It only started recently to be honest. I've been working out for a pretty long while now (nearly 4 years, without any significant breaks). I considered adding a few wrist exercises to my workout routine since I've been somewhat neglecting them. You're probably right though. I really need to take a good look at my form to see what I'm doing wrong. I think I'm bending my wrists back a tad too far while doing the bench press.

If it hurts, stop doing it until you can figure out the problem.
Also, at times, I face the same problem :S

Since it's a bench press. And im assuming it's with a bar not the dumbbells ten you really shouldn't have a problem with grip since you're just pressing up. Maybe it's your form then?

My grip could be the problem .
100kg that's amazing...
Close to 100kg, not the actual 100 yet. I'm not even taking any creatine right now, lol. Do you guys think those wrist strengtheners you see in every fitness shop would help? They're called ''Handgrips''.

For those who are confused: 1kg = 2.2 lbs

My wrists start hurting at around 70kg.. But it's the bone/cartilage that hurts, wtf. Not sure if strengthening wrists will do anything.
