F/p Mages are beautiful and an amazing class

Nuff said. My obsession with this class is just too much to describe in words. And I don't even have Hyper skills!

Since this thread has no other purpose but to praise this amazing class, post what your favorite aspect of the F/P Mage is here.

Pretty good class, I'm level 89 ATM I have level every 3 mins or so after 3rd job. I like that on some maps I can just poison it all then sit in one spot and use explosion and the mobs just keep coming to me. Can't wait for 4th job, I made this guy for the all 4 one event but now I might keep him. Anyways after I get him to level 100-180 or so I'll move on to the I/L hope its just as great.

well time to create an fp, I don't think I've ever seen any group of people so in love with their class since I last visited the shad forum pre red.
also @LightSpiral , I'd never even heard about your site but reading through the articles in the vault has been awesome :O

Wait what's this talk about changing their class into something else? You can do that?

LUK still adds to your magic damage range, so I think Hyper LUK is a bit more useful than the defense hypers

This makes me really happy haha
What did I tell you? People find your guide awesome!

Reading through this thread was fun for me, not only because I agree with most of the things said here, but LightSpiral was (somewhat) able to put into words what I think about FP's for years.
Was able to find an old screenshot of when my FP was actually made, 2006/5/10. *nostalgia lane*

OT:
I've always loved the old Explosion animation, I find it a shame that we lost that, as well as the awesome skill Elemental Composition. But well, I love the fact that we can not only ignite flames on the ground but also rain down meteors on our enemies as a form of Final Attack! Also Meteor Showers animation has been renewed, which makes it more fiery and we get to move around a lot earlier when using it, so its more user friendly as well! I pretty much love everything about FP's from start to end, there was never a moment I wanted a different Main, FP was the only class that kept my interest in Maplestory. Of course I had made other characters but I always got bored of them quickly and would then return to my FP.

In my opinion, FP's are the best thing that have happened to MS, past or future.

@LightSpiral: I guess people aren't active in the game anymore and thus the interest in events has died down because of that. The game's too far downhill imo . I wish I could participate more but your site is blocked on my job .

You don't remember Equalists guild? I invited manaspiral to that guild about a year ago.

@IImaplers: Which guild? haha. I'm in Despair now but we're in an alliance with LegacyReborn. And wow, thank you so much for those kind words! I'm not exactly sure what I've done for the community (other than write articles and talk about squirrels lol!), but thank you nonetheless. I'm glad I wasn't talking to a wall this whole time

I don't want to close the site - I tried to find someone to take over administrative duties - but no one wanted the job. But, I'll let you in a little secret: the site won't be vanishing into thin air Let's just say I'm working on something to modernize everything. It will be different, and may not be called Maple-News, but I'm excited about switching things up a bit.

Oh! And thank you for promoting the event! I posted two topics on Basil to spread the word, and the mods said it was a good idea and to contact mrbasil. I contacted him, and the threads were locked the next day. I guess @mrbasil doesn't approve That being said, do you happen to have any suggestions as far as the events go? We haven't gotten a single submission to the scavenger hunt or art contests. Are they too hard, do you think? I'd like to see maplers get the swag.

@xgrip2k5: I agree! Well, I guess before other than Angel Ray we didn't really have many attacking skills lol! Still, I totally agree with you. I changed my Hero to a DrK and it felt like a similar sort of thing: spam one or two skills and grind, grind, grind! I mean don't get me wrong, I got some quick levels, but I switched to Paladin and it is so much more creative and exciting. Seems like DrK = Bishop to some degree. Meh! I don't have infinity yet, and my range isn't nearly as good as yours, but I'm just loving everything: from the damage to the graphics to the gameplay. Wow! I feel like I'm 12 again!

I think a FP mage would be better than a bishop. I'm not a huge fan of how they changed bishops attacking style to spamming big bang. I don't see how you could possibly regret switching to a FP. I also just ran dojo to see if I could beat it. I got up to dodo and it forced me out but I did manage to spam 6mil lines on ME. Up to 8mil with infinity. This is with 50% boss and 233k range while attacking

@LightSpiral: I'm glad you're enjoying the game still. Are you still part of the guild? I've quit a while ago so idk but I hope things turn out better for you. And your site rocks (even though it's about to close) - go here (gotta promote it haha)

You have contributed more to the game than even a lot of maplestory employees themselves in the past few years.

@Sungoon Well, I've made the transition! I read your guide from start to finish before changing jobs - it was invaluable to me, so thank you so very much! I went with the bossing build, which I think is a good fit for my lv 155. The only question I have in regard to the guide is the purpose of the Luk Hyper skill. Could you elaborate on why we should add a point there?

I'm going to make a thread about my experience tomorrow, but I just have to say, after reading your guide and taking the Open Job Advancement - WOW! Fire mages are unbelievably different from when I last played one in 2006. No more Fire arrow! I've only been playing for about 30 minutes, but I absolutely love, love, LOVE the job. Wow. All I can say is WOW. This alone has rekindled my interest in MapleStory. I kid you not.

I tried two rounds of DIPQ before logging off for the night and it was fun as hell! I failed, mainly because I'm not used to using mist (should I not be using mist?...) and the different gameplay, which I actually enjoy much more than standing in one spot healing or spamming GeneBang. My damage range only increased about 1-2k but I see a huge difference in the damage I do to monsters and the speed at which they die. Things are SO much more exciting. I'm honestly in utter disbelief at the moment - I never thought I would enjoy a character THIS much.

It's kind of wild. I remember when my friend first introduced me to this game back when I was 12/13 and I decided to become a fire/poison mage. Something interested me about it, and still did, and honestly, it was your guide that gave me the courage to pull the trigger and make the change. I am so friggin' glad I did. So, THANK YOU for that. I really appreciate it, especially the way you don't judge or put other players down, especially considering I just 'switched' at level 155.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks, Sungoon. I'm actually a music major at a university, too, but in New Jersey. Must be a musician thing! Oh, and I remember Flenaris, too...back from the Sleepywood days and early YouTube.

I'm psyched! Looking forward to the Myst Eruption changes! I think I might just be a F/P lifer!

@LightSpiral: Aw I don't remember any of those igns And I'm not pro haha!

A Bishop Epode is short for a "White Gold Book <Epode>," a secondary weapon (replaces shields) only equippable by Bishops.

I'm sure you've heard of Myst Eruption, which F/Ps rely on to boss effectively. You can increase its damage by stacking DoTs on the boss, so you'll be using skills from previous jobs. Because of this, it's more involved than it was before Ascension. Some find this easy to do and some don't like it because they prefer the spam-one-skill method. You should see my F/P guide here, I think you'll find it very helpful I'm actually busy making a simpler how to use Myst Eruption guide, which will be posted in the main guide in an hour or two! Hope that helps!
@LightSpiral: :o really? What was your ign?

It seems that Fire/Poison Mages became more Fire first and Poison second. Your range shouldn't go down unless you have a decent Bishop Epode (you wouldn't be able to use it on anything other than a Bishop).

I committed a horrible crime. I switched to I/L for the day </3
I didn't bother with mastery books since this is only temporary-- I'm going to switch back on Saturday. But so far, I'm not a big fan of it. Chain Lightning has a smaller activation range and I guess I'm just not liking the skill graphics like I thought I would. I miss my F/P </3
@Sungoon: I had a bunch of different characters over the years, and you probably were too pro to know me , but if by chance you did they were: Megas92, CrypticSinz, HaiJin, RaabHimself2, TrueHermit, LightSpiral, and FalconPerch.

What exactly is a Bishop Epode? I assume if I don't know what it is, then I don't have one... /noob

I think I'm going to take the plunge tonight or tomorrow. Worse comes to worse, it's only 125m to switch back...which I suppose is better than most. I really, really, REALLY hope I like it. Apparently lv 155 is now when F/Ps hit their stride?

Is there anything specific I should know about the change in gameplay relating to skills when I change? I assume I get to light stuff on fire?

I'm very tempted to job change my lv 155 Bishop to F/P. F/P mage was my first character in beta and then I remade it when GMS came out (2005). Got it to 4x, quit it, made a sin, and then got hacked and quit that account entirely. Pre-BB I had an I/L that I got to 71, then quit, and after an array of different characters made a Bishop post-BB in GAZED solely because I didn't have much funding and wanted to finally get past 100 (LHC leech...don't hate me!). I got it to 13x, quit for a year, came back a few months ago and after some casual playing am now at 155. For some reason, Fire/Poison Mages have always occupied a special place in my heart. Now with the free job adv coin I got today from Cool Time, I'm very, very, VERY tempted to switch jobs.

Everyone is telling me not too, and maybe it would be a mistake (I guess a 125m mistake? lol!) but I'm REALLY tempted to try it. Can any of you offer some advice Those of you who have played F/P mages for a while? The style of gameplay I like is NOT support, and even though they've gotten better at bossing post-RED, I miss lighting stuff on fire I don't have much funding (should have 500-700m within a few more days) but have some decent mage equips. My unbuffed Bishop range is 24k-25k and up to 40k when buffed and I still have to scroll my lv 150 japanese staff and some other gear. The only thing I don't want to happen when switching is to have my range go down (I only have 12% INT from all my equips, if that makes a difference). I'm still getting up to speed with all the massive changes...

@Sungoon, I remember seeing you around when I played in Scania back in the day!

Sungoon is the first character I made 5 years ago and remains my main to this day I fell in love with the old Explosion animation and the way F/Ps could poison entire maps with Poison Mist. Now, I like pretty much everything about them. Though I still miss that old Explosion animation

For the longest time I was on and off in terms of enjoying my F/P. It was the first character I made and kept (the actual first was a sin, which I hated--and I still dislike them).
It reached level 50 shortly before the Pirate class's release, so I had no mobbing skills and zero party funtionality--and PQing was more or less out of the question since I could barely do anything efficiently. I kind of gave up and left it at 5x/6x for a while once Aran came out, which I loved and stuck with for the longest time; I carried the Aran all the way to 18x. It was my main for quite a long time.

After Big Bang, I fell in love with the F/P again. Poison worked on everything, I could mob efficiently, things looked smoother...I took the F/P to 13x and then things started getting old quickly.

Chaos/Fly/whichever gave us ME (can't remember anymore): WHOA LOOK AT THAT WE CAN DO AWESOME DAMAGE NOW. Using Mist Eruption for the first time was a satisfying moment for me, since I'd never hit so high on my mage before (the Aran was relatively well-funded, so it was familiar with good damage). I had to leave for Japan in August of 2012 so I didn't get a lot of time to enjoy and nurture my skills on the F/P with Eruption, and when I came back there were the Hayato and Kanna classes--and I thoroughly enjoyed those. So much, in fact, that once again my F/P was left by the wayside at 15x (not 155 yet, which is now the point where you come into full bloom so to speak) while I had my fun on those. Until it wasn't fun. Hayato and Kanna were/are quite broken in many aspects due to a lack of proper updating and a large number of poor design choices. I still like the Hayato more than the Aran but funding it is way too hard to carry on for the moment. The same is rather true of the Kanna.

RED update: The F/P is my true main now. I don't really think I need to say much else.

In case it wasn't obvious from what I've written so far, I'm not a hardcore grinder even though this game is quite the grindfest, so I have no 200 characters yet. This is written from a somewhat casual perspective.

This class is just the bomb. I can't. I can't. I can't.
