People like ts don't think things through at all. It's actually pretty sad because it's the same as irl. People want some quick fix and don't want to have to actually sacrifice for a permanent solution so all you're left with is an inadequate temporary solution. Granted, nexon has dropped the ball quite often but the real culprits are the hackers who keep doing this. I mean at this rate, we might as well have a giant crisis every 2-3 weeks and have the game shut down for 1-2 days every time. Yeah... that's the way to play.
You know what? I just have a crazy idea, but it's not really that crazy since this method has been used by many anti-virus company.
Nexon should just hire the hackers and pay them to hack. Then they'll develop an anti-hack to counter the hack.
That'll SOLVE so many hacking and duping that's going around Maple.
IF the hacker they hired is competent enough.
people aren't rooting for a rollback. There is simply no easy way to fix a mess like this; since devs were on break, there was a full 24 hours where the dupe was massively used; I heard there were no boom AEEs being sold in some worlds. Some were making perfect (15 enhance) tyrants out of this.

Do you WANT people to keep items like these? Do you WANT the devs to spend weeks to find out who was actually legit and who wasn't?
No I think you misunderstood me, I completely agree that the situation got way out of hand and that in the end a rollback would probably be the best solution. However, people in my buddylist/alliance were talking about how much they wanted a rollback and how excited they were for compensation prizes even back when the situation was much more low key/just rumors. What I'm trying to say is that the frequency of rollbacks has made the community treat them very lightly when it really shouldn't be.

A rollback is reserved for a last resort from what I have seen. This seems like they should rollback. At this hour Nexon employees may still be celebrating their New Years holiday or sleeping because its nearing 2 am pst. I think they will announce rollback later in the day because deleting illegitimately generated items is not enough since there are players who used the duped scrolls onto their items. Unless they want to trace those items, delete them, and lose some of their players which would hurt their profits. A maintenance can always become updated into something else so do not assume that just because Nexon has not mentioned it that it will become written in stone as history.

This is exactly the problem I see with this situation. Rollback's arent a new thing and other games have done it before but I don't think Ive ever seen a game roll back as frequently as Maplestory. If anything, it's just really unprofessional and although it's a minor setback for a majority of the players who just do some daily quests on their main characters there are most likely tons of people who just started the game and got their first character to whatever level within the last few days. Imagine starting to really like a game, getting a character to a level you're proud of (and dont start flaming me about how easy it is to level, everyone has their relative goals), and then finding that the game rolled back 3 days and everything you did just went to waste. Not to mention a lot of people are putting a lot of their free time during breaks into the game. Personally I would find that really heart breaking and frustrating. I don't know, I just find it incredibly selfish that some people are genuinely rooting for a rollback lately.

They need time to assess the damage. Most likely rollback. Nexon does tend to surprise though.

There is no other way to fix this without a rollback. A rollback is the only option now.

3 weeks ago when there WAS rollback, they only released the notice providing details about the rollback 12 hours into the unscheduled maintenance. 8 hours to go

I assumed just a straight ban hammer by the description on the main site but I don't think this issue be fixed without a rollback.

Now wait for people to complain about not getting compensation.

That usc doesn't guarantee anything, for all we know, they might go with a rollback if it's severe.
