I was thinking about that but, I want a way that's more safe. Instead of more a "Go big or Go Home"

or other expensive items that requires karma

Why don't you just cube stuff O_O. You can cube items to legendary and sell them? Go for thief stuff though. They'll go up
I personally wouldn't turn it into mesos, but I'd sell my current, ok gear and buy unique-legendary items and just go on a cubing spree.
But surprise boxes are probably your best bet. Or attempting to sell cubing services to people who trust you lol.

surprise style boxes: 90day sells for 30-40m, perm for 300m-1b (maybe 1-2 perm per 11? not quite sure) - by far the best choice in my opinion
SOK/PSOK: if you have friends willing to take you on zak/czak runs, you can sell helms/skill books
cubes: cube stuff and profit? or sell cube service
hammers: sell hammer service
