College Laptop

Do most college students use macbooks or just a plain laptop? And is bringing a desktop with me to college a normal thing among students?

I personally dislike macs a lot, which is why I use a laptop and plug in a keyboard

Seen more PC laptop then macbooks
I'd get a macbook cuz it looks more aesthetic on the outside and gui, and well built, you can learn to use Unix, more secure/less virus, but not many games run on it
But you can get an equally or more powerful PC laptop for less than a macbook, run more games and programs, and can install Linux on it

They're going to talk you into buying a Macbook, but don't listen.

The only people I know who brought their PCs to college were hardcore gamers.
(I'd also look and see how many ethernet ports your room has and be able to work something out with your roommate.)

Most people at my university have macbooks, but there are still a ton that use a windows laptop.
Unless you're going into anything where you'd need design software, I'd stick with windows.
I unfortunately regret not getting a macbook because a lot of the software I use for lighting design stuff works WAYYY better on macs than windows.

I use a macbook.
I believe that it is weird for you to bring a desktop, when buying a laptop shouldnt be too expensive.

This guy knows where it's at. Typically I have 2 laptops I take and 1 tablet depending on the mood. My gaming laptop I take if I don't have anything
important to do, my casual laptop I take on days when I know I have to type or search things for assignments or watch serious videos. I take my
ipad since all my books are ebooks and that is the only thing I take consistently. Though for some of my teachers, a computer in the class is a big
no no....

Macs are really overpriced.. i'd just get a standard laptop although I have a desktop in my room since I game and what not so it serves two purposes.
If you can type fast (100wpm+) you should bring your laptop. Otherwise, bring your notebook. Laptops are a big burden since you will feel the weight (even a macbook) and it is just another valuable to worry about when you need to leave your stuff to go to the bathroom in the library.

Desktops are fine, they're just difficult to carry from home to dorm if you don't have transportation.
Lol legit, I'm too paranoid, when I have to go to the washroom, I take my wallet, my phone, and my iPad, and I try to come back asap. Like damn, even my textbook is like a hundred dollars and I get worried about leaving it on a table.

Tbh, it's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to leaving your stuff unattended. Even if you ask someone to watch your stuff, if anything happens, that person can't be held liable... (a little bit of an off-topic thought x_x)

OT: For uni, you most definitely need a laptop now-a-days. Even if ultrabooks are expensive, it's an investment worth looking into~ I have a laptop at home, but I bring my ipad wherever I go (it has a $100 keyboard/case on it), and I just use that to type my notes in class (i even record my lectures sometimes ~ illegal much). And I'm still not on topic...

OT: don't bring a desktop, just bring a laptop.

Ultrabooks are expensive too! With edu pricing, you can grab the most recent mac air 13 inch for ~750. around 700 if you want the 11 inch.

Macs are very expensive, if you just want a laptop for school go for an ultra book or even a surface pro.

it depends on your program.
If your program says you need a mac, then get one.
If your program doesnt say anything about what laptop you need, then just get a cheap laptop unless you plan on using it for something else like gaming.
It is normal for people to bring laptops in during class. You do what you want, really. Just don't disturb the class.

Macs are pretty nice because they're thin, light, and have tons of battery life (good for the whole educational environment)

Everyone I've met so far has some sort of laptop. I see mostly Macbooks. Don't know too much about desktops but I believe some people do that especially if they game a lot.

I would say it depends on your program.
I'm in Business Administration, and around 50% of the students in BBA have MacBooks.
Not too many students bring desktops to university, but I have seen a couple people have them in their rooms because they either play a lot of games, or they just like having a larger screen.

Most professors don't mind if you have a laptop during lectures. I would bring mine to take notes with.
