well all this sort of sucks... I might just pay for cubes then...
Also you will have to make cubes daily in order to maintain your mastery. If you don't you lose your Meister/Master Craftsman Privilege.

You may spend roughly 1-2b depending on your server to level up your smithing profession until you hit level 11. This is when you may create master cubes, which can only be used on items unique or below. Level 12 allows you to craft meister cubes which an be used on items all the way up to legendary. Keep in mind that the material cost for these cubes are around 50m, and 120m, respectively.

master craftsman and meister. Available through Smithing lvl 11-12 and mining/harvesting veins/patches in monster maps.
Elite mobs/bosses drop them, including the less often normal bosses such as zakum,ranmaru,hilla,pb,etc
Sometimes on sale through coin shops and definitely available in FM stores.
