Would craftsmasman -> meister give you 4096 diligence?
EDIT: Leveling smithing and unlearning it is faster than the craftsman decay, but it's a huge hassle because you need to use up all available fatigue (660). This means being up at midnight pst to max out your fatigue and then smithing throughout the day. There's also a glitch that sometimes causes a relearned smithing to disappear (has to do with logging out I think), which could mean a waste of ~50 fatigue if you're unlucky.
I agree, alchemy is the cheapest. The method Zero suggested is probably the fastest.

complete his quests. he'll give you a research report which increases Insight, Diligence and Charm. also after escaping the island you'll get even more diligence.
I'm not sure what the fastest is but the cheapest is alchemy
@crzymerch12: by Mr Lee's do you mean completing his quests or killing monsters there? If I can level up my diligence I'm going there. Ran out of seeds/flowers to convert into oils and farming at evo takes a really long time
