Acer TimelineX Battery Question

Hey guys,

I recently bought an Acer TimelineX 3830TG and all i want to know about is how to maintain the battery life.
Because the battery is integrated like a macs, would leaving it plugged in all the time hurt the battery life? Should i wait till its charged, take it out and use it till its low battery then charge it again?

Thanks!

MmmmmHmm
Overcharge and overdischarge disrupt the desired chemical equilibrium of the battery. I would rather have the laptop unplugged, but modern battery monitoring technology does significantly reduce the risk of overcharging. A high charge would more adversely reduce charge capacity during long periods of inactivity (weeks to months.) In the meantime, as long as you plan to use the battery regularly, there is no risk to leaving the laptop plugged into the wall.
okay thanks!

To prevent the Li-ion battery from overcharging, the charging circuitry will cut the power being sent to the battery until it self-discharges itself to a certain point. IIRC, it's around 95% for most modern day laptop. Partial discharge cycles put less strain on the battery than full/deep discharges, so you don't necessarily have to worry too much on that other than to recalibrate the fuel gunge, nor do you need to with overcharging it.

Since it is built-in your laptop, what you may need to worry about is heat as Jazzman address. It does affect the lifespan of the battery overtime, especially during heavy uses that will warm up your laptop. Try to elevate the back of your laptop to help the airflow a bit and don't put it where it will obstruct the vents like your bed. Other basic laptop maintenance such as cleaning the dust that will likely going to be build in the laptop may help as well (which should be done regardless of whether or not you have a non-removable battery).

Since most modern day electronic devices use a lithium ion battery, in order to extend the battery life there are a few things you can do. Don't expose the battery to excessive heat. The more you let the battery run low the worse it is for it; try to keep it charged up. If your battery is charged unplug the battery. There's no use in keeping it plugged in you're just degrading the battery. I'm sure there are more tips but this is what I know.
