Can't get cake/pie medal?

The NPCs keep telling me I don't have enough Equip room, but I have 2 full rows empty. o_O

The NPC said I was cake, but when I tried to get the medal/board he tells me I'm pie and says I don't have enough room.

Well, I have the same going on, however, the event just works for me. The npc said I'd be pie, and I get the rewards if pie wins, so I suppose everything is just fine. Do have to say its annoying to be unable to check the chart as in when the next battle may start.
