Why should Feminism be relevant in the west today?

Women in most first world countries have already achieved social, political and legal equality. The movement itself started with the goal of extending suffrage rights to all women. It has done that and many more. Now that its reached its limits, why should it still be relevant in the west, today?

The civil rights movement has ended, yet not one civil rights law has been redacted. So the argument that women rights will be gone can be brushed aside.

Too much of anything is bad for everyone and it's obvious at this point that feminism is being pushed against its natural death as a movement, much to society's detriment. It has become toxic and needs to go.

@saitama: Yeah, that's just part of what I was trying to say in regards to men's rights as well.

It's still a crime as serious as sexual assault, regardless of which gender is involved. Therefore it doesn't necessarily mean that feminism as a whole should be cast aside, nor should it be taken to the other extreme end of the spectrum (and vice versa for men).

@readers: It's funny you say sexual assaults against women are still often unreported. Do you know why we don't have any statistics on sexual assaults against men, it's because the number of unreported cases we believe make up such a large percentage of assaults against men we cannot come to any sound conclusion.

*cough cough* voter id laws... let's not forget about roe v wade and how that's been rolledback in several states. Loop holes exist so the laws don't need to be redacted.

No right answer here, but depending on how one defines 'feminism' there is still relevance.

It can be much like the concept of race; sure we have the civil rights movement, but it is still an issue that has been propagated over and over again. (The current Black Lives Matter movement is only an instance of that. Whether or not you think that is a movement that you contend with is something of a different matter altogether.)

In the case of feminism, sure many advances have been made since then, but it is still an issue that has continued to propagate itself over and over again. Domestic violence and sexual assaults against women are still an often unreported thing. Those who do tend to come forward may potentially be silenced in some way afterwards.

I do think in recent years it has become branded as something more extreme, however (as if all feminists are men-haters and etc., even though these people may only represent a small portion of those who brand themselves feminist). It has also begun to swing the other way around too (with men's rights and etc., which makes me wonder how much of a neverending cycle this will be). That doesn't necessarily mean it should be consider irrelevant, as of yet, especially when there are still other underlying issues involved.

So we can laugh at it as it tries to do something it already has done.

It shouldn't be.

We've gone from one extreme to the other...something called 'enantiodromia.'
