How is Deviant Art?

I was wondering how the community is on this website.. I've been ambivalent in the past to join it because I get anxious when people see my art but some of my friends suggest i join it since it exposes you to several kinds of art which helps i guess. So how is the community there and is it worth joining?

The search bar allows you to look for great art in different categories: like abstract, landscape, photography. You can also join many groups that suit your taste in art, or just your favorite fandom. If you communicate and participate in these groups, you can pretty much prosper as a DA member.

I never look for the furries or the anthros that many people in this thread have mentioned, so I rarely encounter them.

"Birds of a feather flock together." You'll find many people with the same interests in art as you do, and they'll DAwatch you if you are particularly good at it. Same with the fandoms. If you like an anime, or a certain tv show, members with similar enthusiasms will follow.
Wow, I like your positive view of DA, it's also quite informative and I'm glad there are options.

@Gentlerain I have an account but I haven't done anything with it yet...

I've kind of given up on posting my art there. I feel it's useless because no one ever really looks at/favorites/comments on my art.

Did you join yet?

It's really up to you and how you feel about the site, since some favor it, some don't.

The community is satisfactory i guess, if you don't mind the relentless and perpetual anime & anthro art fans lol.

Too bad dA doesn't have an option to delete your account if you want to get rid of it... :I

Edit: BUT, i forgot to mention, you can deactivate it
Just do what most internet-denizens do, look it up in Encyclopædia Dramatica. Also, even the worst art, the kind that appears to be drawn by a mentally handicapped toddler (but the artist is at least a teenager), will be called amazing.
Doesn't ED only post the list of drama queens and kings of dA and write hilarious but true descriptions of them? I've seen an amazing cosplayer that's listed and it turns out that she was an attention seeking drama queen lol.
Wow, and I was under the impression that they were overly austere and was filled with prestigious artists.. Well that's a shame.. it must be hard to get recognized if you're an original artist.
Unfortunately, that's the way it is on dA. You'd have to be extremely lucky to have someone that appreciates all kinds of art rather than just solely sticking to one category. I, for myself appreciates all types of art and again, I'm proud to say that I am.

As an Abstract and Fractal Artist, I like it a lot better there.
Let me use this analogy

"It's like being stuck in a room full of Richards"
so basically, everyone is the same and does everything the same?..
Pros about deviantART

-They answer your ticket and you actually get a reply about your problems

-The community is so much more polite, although there are flamers from here and then

-You can join groups and edit categories that contribute to a specific type of art

Cons about deviantART

-* There's like, no good luck getting comments, favs, and people viewing your stuff. *
The only ways to get super popular is to draw LOLZNARUTO, HETALIA, VOCALOID, BLEACH ART, COPIED STYLED OF A CERTAIN ARTIST *cough aritsts copying Naruto styled art* and other popular media...the huge ass fan base is obsessed with that type of stuff and they don't bother to check out other types of wonderful art. Even though I like anime myself, I get tired of seeing this type of fan based stuff. o.e It's quite rare to find people that actually appreciates all kinds of art, I'm proud to call myself that I'm actually one of the few. >_>

I barely get any comments on my work because I usually draw MapleStory related stuff and that fan base on dA isn't even close to a 1/100th of the Naruto fan base. Not to mention I never get any comments on my fractal art because again, most people only look at a certain type of art. I post samples of my Maple art (not all) on basil because it's so much easier to get feedback and views (frontpaged if mrbasil likes it) from the peeps here, I can cope with the flamers. I appreciate every single comment I receive both ways overall.

-Flash ads that give out sound and you have to manually click on them to turn it off (lol I hate this so much)
I think the main part of the community is terrible. It's all about fanart, furries, sparkledogs, animu, naked people.

Then there is a small community with people who are actually great artists. But it takes a while to find them.

Oh and also it is full of errors and glitches atm, which take years and years to fix. I'm serious, the administration is horrible.

It's way better than basil, but there's so many more people on dA. A little harder to get started, I guess?
