My friend is venting to me about his suicidal thoughts and problems.

Smack it out of him.
Nothing in this world is worth killing yourself.
Life goes on.
Stay the same as usual.
Don't advise him/her and just listen, and let them know the way you'll treat them will be the same as always no matter what.
That helped me alot to get back on track.
KILL HIM QUICK BEFORE HE SUICIDES! on the reals though, tell the nurse or guidance counselor.
