Question about batteries

If I say "We do not wish to discharge the battery more than 60%". Am I saying that we're only using 40% of the battery or 60% of the battery?

For nickle metal batteries (or NiMH) and lithium ion (or Li-ion), it is recommended not let it completely discharge (no less than ~15% before charging again). Also the life of the battery is approximately about 500 charges. Recharging at 40% would means you will be charging it sooner than it needs which leads to shorter battery life.

The way you stated it, you're using 60% of the battery, leaving 40% unused.

40%. Discharging is releasing energy, so it seems like theyre saying 'we don't want to lose more than 60% power'

but i've been wrong before

Means you are discharging up to 60% but not past it.

Would I stop at 40% or 60% of the total battery bank?
