College students How long do you have to drop your classes?
As the title says, I'm trying to see how long you have to drop your classes.
Halfway through last semester it was proposed at my university that they would change our drop time we have from eight weeks to two weeks.
Which is COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS.
We all raised hell about it and now they have it so it will affect the class of 2018 and onwards... Which isn't any better for future students.
So, I was just wondering how long you guys have to drop your classes? To get an idea of how many colleges only have two weeks to drop their classes.
What would you guys think if you were in this kind of situation?
For those of you who are in semester systems who only have two weeks to drop, how the hell do you manage?
I just don't see that being possible at all...
You have no idea how difficult the class will be in only two weeks... If it's a T/TH class, we would meet three times before it's too late to drop. How in the hell do you gauge how a class will go in such a short amount of time without taking an exam or getting any grades back?
It's just so messed up because at my university they really push the fact we're the most academically driven students in our state and push ourselves to take these really out there classes outside of our comfort zone since it's a liberal arts school. Now we won't be able to do that since we only have two weeks to drop a class.
I understand why you would be frustrated about this situation that you are in. But I personally feel that you shouldn't gauge a class by your grade on an exam, it should be whether or not this class would interest you or not, if you feel you will grow academically or feel challenged in this class. Dropping really shouldn't be for people who got a bad grade on an exam so they feel like they should just give up. Take the time to learn from the mistakes, and plus you should be trying to LEARN for the education, not just for the GRADE.
my school is like a week to a week and a half to drop without a "W" grade, meaning that nothing shows on the transcript if you drop it within the deadline.
Then to drop it with a W on your transcript is around 8-10 weeks.
This is a community college btw
up until 15% of your mark as already been issued (generally the first test/midterm)
up till the exam to drop

Week 0 - Week 2 you can drop without any consequences
Week 3 - Week 8 you can drop and recieve a W
Week 9 - Week 10 you can drop for an F
2 weeks to drop without W, 4 weeks to drop with W.
1 week to drop without the W, i believe until midterms with W and you need to pay $20
but there are exceptions as i dropped a class last year a week before finals
2 weeks to drop highly impacted classes like organic chem lectures and most labs
2 weeks to drop any class without a fee
5 weeks to drop all other classes without getting a "W" on your transcript
2 weeks to drop classes. Other than that, you're screwed unless you're failing.
3 days to drop. 3 month to withdraw.

whoops just noticed i posted the wrong link, roughly 2 months to drop the course without receiving a grade
2 weeks to add/drop whatever classes you want to change
4 weeks to add courses with permission of the course instructor, after this you can no longer add courses
roughly 8 weeks to drop the course without getting a 0
you can still technically drop after 8 weeks but you will receive a failing mark
10 day and 20 day depending on the class.
You can also drop right before finals week with permission but idk anything about that.
I think it was like 2 weeks to drop the class completely, and up to 8 if you wanted to surrender to the W grade.
2 weeks to drop impacted classes
4 weeks to drop other classes
Operating on a quarter system (10 weeks + 1 for finals)
4 weeks to drop with nothing on your transcript
8 weeks to drop with a "withdrawal" on transcript
10 week deadline to request "incomplete" (extreme circumstances)
I think it was around 4-5 weeks before finals
That's ridiculous. We have two week to get 100% refund. Eight weeks for 50% refund and nothing on your transcript, I believe.
